Following the last pleas that were made, a significant number of cats went to rescue in a large (and for the transporter) exhausting transport. That was two weeks ago, and since then an equal or larger number of cats and kittens have been brought in by animal control and by people surrendering cats with the usual excuses. As a city open admission shelter, the volunteers must accept the owner surrenders. The situation is now becoming desperate once again with cages stacked in the hallway and in the bathroom. The shelter doesn't want to kill any of these beautiful animals, but the new intakes are doomed unless some rescues are able to come through, and pull even one or two of these healthy, sponsored and fully vetted cats. As bcoo has said:
We are so, so desperate to find rescue. We have nowhere to go with any of these cats. They have no hope of getting out and I'm not foolish enough to think there aren't more coming in. Feel free to post about how full we are wherever you may want.
As someone who talks to the volunteers on a daily basis, I can tell you I sense their anguish when they talk about these beautiful cats. These cats aren't unsociable and semi-feral, but affectionate, well-socialized and loving cats. Some of them will die unless the situation changes very quickly. Please check the website and see if you have room for any of these lovely animals. Transports are made frequently to the north and northeast, but speak to the volunteers if you are somewhere else, as they may find a way to accomodate your needs. These are difficult times for rescues and shelters everywhere, but I would ask rescuers who have pulled Grayson cats before to look very hard to see if you have room for another one or two. The critters and volunteers will thank you."
