Ranting does not help deathrow cats and dogs but when I read the reasons many of these cats and dogs were surrendered along with a PTS date I had to put my two cents in. Many shelters have to accept every animal left at their door or dumped in a drop off box or brought into the shelter. Once again I think the present system enables pet owners to dump pets like they would their garbage. AND PETS ARE NOT GARBAGE. Reasons for surrender: Needs too much attention, personal problems, moving, going to the hospital. Look at these dogs and cats whose lives are threatened because of people who cannot figure out how to take care of THEIR PETS. Honestly how can a person with a heart drop their pet off at a high kill shelter because the dog wanted too much attention. I understand that in some cases people do this with great sadness. They honestly are not able to care for an animal if they are sick or without a job. Here is where the system needs to change to support animal owners, help them keep pets in their homes by offering support. Food pantries, low cost vet care, even help with behaviour problems are a few ways to do this and where these activities have already been implemented by shelters and rescues many dogs and cats were not surrendered to the shelter but remained in their homes with the people that loved them.
