From the Barrow Officers:
"All Applications and Rescues MUST have all paperwork into the Office no later than noon on the Tuesday before the scheduled PTS date. No other information will be accepted past that time or date. No other contact will be made until the Wednesday Afternoon, which will be done via email ONLY. There will be no guarantee that any animal will be here past any date, due to space restraints and the amount of animals received on a daily basis. If you or anyone is interested in any animal, please do not hesitate to place an application on the animal. Time is the enemy of our Shelter. The more time taken to consider an adoption or check multi emails on the same animal, the less time we have getting more animals out of our shelter to new and loving homes.
Please be considerate and realize that at most times it is 1 to 2 people answering emails; this takes time to read and respond to everyone. Phone calls are not returned due to time constraints; emailing is the only accepted means of communication at this time.
Please have all paperwork in order, which helps us handle each case swiftly and quickly.

1/23/12" eight year old AKC registered blue viper pit bull terrier" needs rescue or home.

"This is Viper, he is an eight year old AKC registered blue viper pit bull terrier.  His owners moved out and abandoned him.  Originally they were going to tie him to a tree somewhere but a young man stepped in and took Viper.  He cannot keep him because he is not supposed to have dogs where he lives.  His mother has Viper at her house, but she is not supposed to have dogs where she lives either, so they are sneaking around hoping someone will be able to rescue him.

I met Viper , he is a friendly , handsome dog.
He is good with other dogs.  He is not neutered.  I'm not sure about vaccinations.  I can find out, probably hasn't had them either.
Viper is in Bristol, CT.
Contact Delette Corwel at 203-464-2457 or poomeister@hotmail.com to get more information and to meet Viper or to rescue him.  We don't have much time.
Please crosspost."

1/18/12 "Reba found wandering the streets..emaciated.Please Donate to Reba's vetting, spay and HW treatment'' Georgia

"This is Reba, a citizen called AC today that he picked up this girl on the country road wandering around.. Obviously she just had puppies..she only has a little milk due to the fact that she is so emaciated. The people that picked her up didnt look for any pups and now it is most likely too late to find the alive...they waited 4 days before calling AC.
She is around 2-3 years old, VERY skinny and is HW positive:-( She obviously didn't have a good life so far..she didnt even know what a blanket is...

She is at AC in Hinesville, GA and I am putting up a chip in so I can take her to the vet asap. She is very friendly and sweet, but unknown how she is around other dogs at this point." M. Wilder

All Sentient Beings (ASB) rescued baby Civic and we were so grateful this sweet fellow was saved. He is now at the vet receiving medical care and will remain there for his isolation period. Please help ASB by sharing and donating to Civic's vetting expenses. ASB saves so many, and often the ones who need considerable medical treatment. Subject: Chained dogs - zero commitments in Ironton OHIO!!! FREEZING TEMPERATURES THIS WEEKEND!! VETTING SPONSORED!!!!!!

From: lisagab@earthlink.net
Female Shephard mix.  DOLL!  About 50lbs.
White fluff ball.  Male we believe.  About 50lbs and a real looker.  He is a bit standoffish right now.. of course my dad is a big man and these dogs have had little contact for weeks...Dad thinks this baby will warm up quickly especially once dad feeds him for a few days.
Female - black and white.  Seriously she is adorable.  Sweet, attentive and desperately wants out of her cage.
Herbie - I know people wont be fighting over Herbie.  He is a rottie mix (maybe with terrier).  Herbie is a DOLL.  Submissive and loving with humans (even my big ol’ dad).  I fear that Herbie will be left behind.
Male - black and tan beagle mix??  Sweet and a bit shy.  He makes me sad!  He knows his dog house is the safest place right now.
Female - larger at about 45 lbs or so.  Corgi mix??/ Large Corgi.  Sweet and social.
Old and fluffy.  I don’t know gender at this time.  This dog is scared - scared - scared.
Older and the most heart breaking sight.  I desperately want this dog to have a few years of freedom.

VETTING SPONSORED FOR CHAINED DOGS!!! PLEASE CROSSPOST  NOT ONE OF THESE DOGS HAS BEEN SPOKEN FOR YET!

Ladies: Please crosspost this far and wide.  These SPONSORED dogs are on chains and the temps will be in the single digits this weekend. They need rescue commitments ASAP.  Ashland Animal Rescue Fund can get them freed, vetted and on transport… but they need to be liberated from their chains.  Some of these dogs are wonderful…. And desperately need a second chance.  Here is the situation described by Amy, the director of Ashland Animal Rescue Fund( AARF)
Hello -
Again we have an owner willing to surrender a yard full of chained dogs.
This is an older couple who live in Ironton OH.  They lived in a mobile
that flooded in the last big rain.  They moved to town and left their
 'pets' behind.
They were driving over and feeding them every couple of days.
 They called us
as they were out of money for food and gas

Dad went over day before yesterday to check the dogs out.
 DEPLORABLE
.  The dogs are all chained inside of makeshift kennels.
 The floor of their kennels
are just waste and mud.  The dogs all look okay
but y'all it is getting very very cold here.
I can absolutely sponsor their transport fees and
basic vetting is about $75.00.  All are sweet.
I am desperate to find a place for these babies
 before they freeze to death.
PLEASE look and consider even one of them.

***CONTACT: amylfogelman@gmail.com   and
mlevenberg@nyc.rr.com

AARF can get weights and ages on the dogs and do
 further temp testing.

Thank you.

"My name is CONWAY. My Animal ID # is A0920787.
I am a male black and white domestic sh mix. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years old.

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 12/30/2011 from NY 10035, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY. I came in with Group/Litter #K11-087352.

How it Works: Adopting a Cat From The “To Be Destroyed” Album If you decide to adopt a cat that is on the “To Be Destroyed” list, you must act fast. Any cat on the list, can be destroyed the following morning. We try to post the list every night at 6PM. You then have 2 hours to call the shelter and advise of your intentions. After 8, you must either have a rescue call, and place a hold, or YOU MUST CALL THE SHELTER THE NEXT MORNING BEFORE 8AM! Do not wait because I guarantee that the shelter will not wait either. Euth's begin at 6am. Call early! "HOW TO" INFO-CLICK on LINK: http://www.facebook.com/PetsOnDeathRow?sk=info
DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the cat. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the cat’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the cat. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how cats fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

Brooklyn 718-272-7201 (hit 0 for operator, do not leave a message. May need to hit 0 a few times at the end of each cycle to keep their phone ringing)!!

UPDATE: RESCUE PENDING

From Officer Burrell:
This is Reba. She is a Golden Ret. mix approximately 9-12 months old that has been here at the shelter since early November. She has a sad story. She was hit by a car we think. The owner knew she was injured and refused to take her to the vet. We took her and found that she had an artery that was cut and she had lost a lot of blood. After that being repaired and several doses of medication she is here and doing well. We would like to find her a rescue to help her. If you can help her please let us know.

SPONSORSHIP TO HELP THE ANIMALS IN NEED is greatly appreciated. If you wish to sponsor one of the animals, please send an email to satoashley@comcast.net (comcast.net) stating which of the dogs or cats you wish to sponsor. The sponsorship information will be forwarded to the officers at the shelter. Offers of medical sponsorship will additionally be added to email pleas of the animals they are designated for without personal information given. They are meant as ‘pledges’ only for future donations to the approved rescue that pulls the animal(s) to assist with their medical needs. Sponsors will be contacted with the information of the pulling rescue once all arrangments are finalized for the rescue of the animal(s).

ADOPTION AND OUT-OF-STATE RESCUE: Please request an application from the shelter mburrell@barrowga.org (@barrowga.org) and dharper@barrowga.org (@barrowga.org). Include the ID number of the animal(s) if available and not just name alone & write ‘application request’ in the subject line of correspondence. Completed applications are faxed/emailed back to the shelter for the approval process. Please be patient during this time - approved adopters will be contacted once the approval process is completed. After shelter hours, applications can be requested also from satoashley@comcast.net (@comcast.net). Full veterinary services and boarding are available at Four Paws Veterinary Hospital and transport of the animal to the hospital is arranged.

GEORGIA RESCUE: Please contact the Barrow officers for specific information. Approved GA licensed rescues can pull animals free of charge with the veterinary care being the responsibility of the rescue. Out of state rescue, please request an application from the shelter. At this time, the shelter does not have specific out-of-state transport help, but may be able to assist with local, short distance transport if needed and the volunteers are available to do so.

CATS: The adoption fee for any cat is $100. The fee includes: spay or neuter, physical exam, fecal exam, deworming, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, and microchip. For licensed Georgia rescues there is no charge to pull a cat, but no veterinary services come with the cat. Out of state rescues, please contact us for details. *LAST DAY means the date the cat is scheduled for euthanasia. If we have a cat posted whose last day has passed, that cat should be considered extremely urgent. Please call about those cats immediately as they may be subject to euthanasia at any time. We remove postings on available cats when they leave the building or their adoption has been completed. If you are a rescuer who has spoken for a cat or a person with an adoption application on a cat, do not take offense. We have had rescues and adoptions fall through in the past and we work hard to make sure no cat falls through the cracks.

DOGS: The adoption fee for all dogs is $100. The fee includes: Spay or neuter, physical exam, fecal exam, deworming, rabies vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, and microchip. For licensed Georgia rescues there is no charge to pull a dog, but no veterinary services come with the dog. Out of state rescues, please contact us for details. *LAST DAY means the date the dog is scheduled for euthanasia. If we have a dog posted whose last day has passed, that dog should be considered extremely urgent. Please call immediately about those dogs as they may be subject to euthanasia at any time. We remove postings on available dogs when they leave the building or their adoption has been completed. If you are a rescuer who has spoken for a dog or a person with an application on a dog, do not take offense. We have had rescues and adoptions fall through in the past and we work hard to make sure no dog falls through the cracks.
TRANSPORT FOR OUT OF STATE ADOPTERS AND RESCUES: Transport is the responsibility of the adopter/rescue respectively. At this time, the shelter does not have specific transport help. There are multiple resources available for this and please ask those involved in the rescue community for recommendations and references if needed. For a list of transport resources, please send a request via email.

IF YOU WISH TO SAVE AN ANIMAL IN NEED - PLEASE DON’T DELAY! Contact the shelter as early as possible to begin adoption/rescue preparations. Euthanization typically is on Wednesday mornings and Barrow is closed to the public. Contacting the shelter NO LATER THAN 5:00 on Tuesdays is in the best interest of the animals as it allows sufficient time to make adoption or rescue preparations without risk of last-minute issues. The shelter makes every available effort for the animals, but they need your timely and respectful cooperation to continue these efforts. Wednesday: please email the Barrow Co. officers BEFORE 8:30 AM if an animal is still in need of rescue.

WANT TO BE ADDED OR REMOVED FROM THE MAILING LIST? If you would like to be added directly to the Barrow County weekly list of animals in need + updates, please send an email to satoashley@comcast.net  (@comcast.net). Please specify dog, cats or both if desired. If you wish to be removed, simply send an email with 'remove' in the subject line.

WHAT ARE THE HOURS?
Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays – CLOSED to the public (but they can still correspond with people on Wednesdays); other week days – OPEN 8-5. Call ahead before coming out around holidays.

The shelter is always in need of kitty litter and other items (towels, cardboard boxes that hold a case of drinks, chewy dog treats, etc.!!! PLEASE DONATE IF YOU CAN!!!

I am not sure what it is but it seems nobody wants either of these beautiful kitties.  Please cross post with all of your contacts.  There must be someone out there who would love to have either one of these babies…

This beautiful little girl, looks like a Norwegian Forest Cat with the tufts of hair coming out of her ears. Her eyes are AMAZING, they are not exactly green but they are not blue either... Almost reminds me to the water in the Caribbean.  It appears that she was not treated kindly in the past because she cowers and is visibly scared when you first reach into her cage but then let's you hold her and love on her.  Also, this baby's coat is worse for wear... She appears to have a flea allergy with the hair thinning on her tail and her coat feeling hard. :-( This baby needs some tender loving care and she will be amazingly beautiful. Are you willing to put in a little time and effort for a huge pay off in the end? Well, then Miranda is for you and I promise you, she will KNOW that you have helped her and she will be a loyal and loving girl to you for the rest of her life. I have already given Miranda a dose of Advantage Multi for cats."
