Does A Great Dog Have To Die Because Owner's Moved? He is in Ky Shelter euth date 3/3/08

"Ruben is a great guy. He gets along great with other dogs and kids. He is a little hyper with cats but not aggressive. His owners moved to an apartment where dogs were not allowed. Ruben has a great personality and just loves everyone."

  • Breed: Boxer, American Staffordshire Terrier[Mix]
  • Male
  • Adult

Reuben is a shelter favorite. His family moved and did not take him. Please help this dog. He has until Monday 3/3/08. Everyone is heartbroken at the thought of ending Reuben's life but they need more space. This poor boy will be killed( unless rescued or adopted) because they need space. These animals are not old clothes. I am not blaming the shelter. They are doing the best they can do with their resources. But think about it, isn't there something wrong with killing wonderful animals because there is no space because people keep dropping dogs off and sometimes it is for selfish reason like they don't want them anymore?
I wish the pictures were larger to show Reuben's Doggie Face.

Romeo and Cassanova, Two Lovers Find A Home, Happy Tails

Here is an e-mail from a Mason adopter.

"I'm sending you some pictures of the dogs I adopted from Mason County last summer."

"Cass. It is short for Cassanova. He is a sweetheart. He's a little scared at times and hovers down close to the ground at times but is getting a little better. He loves attention. His name used to be Hardy but we changed it to Cass, a lover boy's name!"

"Romeo is another lover boy's name! I picked these names because we kept calling them our lover boys so they had to have appropriate names. Romeo used to be Dumbledore. I'm thinking someone named him that from the professor on Harry Potter. He is also a sweetheart and gets people to pet him by nudging at them with his nose. Both of these guys are great dogs. They can also sit and shake hands/paws on request."

These two hit the jackpot. Glad to hear they have a wonderful home.

Just a big ole oversized and huggable lug of a young fella. Has an easy-going nature. He was picked up as a stray running with his littermate in B-10 (female) and his owners have not come to claim him and his sister.
Now both are out of time and can be euthanized if no one comes to adopt/rescue them. Please hurry!
NOTE: CCAC CANNOT ADOPT ONLINE OR OVER THE PHONE. ADOPTIONS MUST BE DONE IN PERSON.

Please help spread the word.........there are so many nice ones on the euth. list......it is heartbreaking.

Look at these dogs. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Of course crying is the feeling most appropriate when looking at these animals who are scheduled to die tomorrow. Look at them. These are adoptable animals just like many others who have died. Why would I laugh?I think because gassing animals as if they were criminals borders on the darkly absurd, on the surreal, on the height of tragedy that what else can a person do when faced with this craziness. And the no adoption on phone really eliminates potential adopters who may have to travel to adopt or rescue.

ADOPTED!!!!Honest To God, Irresponsible Lazy Pet Owners Get My Dander Up

Mason is a small male wire haired JRT. He is 8 years old and was surrendered by his owners because he pees in the house when left alone and they refuse to try a crate.

I try to be polite on this blog but somedays I just can't help myself. My emotions spill over. I don't know all the specifics of the previous owner's situation and I don't really care. Giving up an 8 year old pet instead of crate training him because he pees in the house when left alone seems pretty callous. I think these owners should be on the never allowed to own a dog list. I know people who love their dogs so much that even when their dogs are old and incontinent, they do what they can to keep them. Some people might say why. I say because love is love and when things get hard, you do your best to live with them or change them and you try your hardest until you can't do anything else. I tell you these people just do not have the capacity to think creatively or do not have the emotional capacity or desire to deal with this dog's problem.. I think a dog should at least be given chances before being sent to a shelter or killed. I make this comparison. There are people who refuse to do the right thing with their kids so why would they do it with a pet? Well, Mason deserves better. He is worth all the effort. It is obvious his former owners did not have the capacity to crate train him. Maybe everyone is better off. I know there is someone who will love and cherish Mason forever. I hope they are reading this post.

Sherry & Steve ADOPTED!!!!!Stayed with Deceased Owner. Steve Wants A Chance to Stay Off A Chain & Mason Vet Bill

Sherry is sad. She is not used to a shelter. She is not used to being without that one special person who looked after her and loved her. Please open your heart to Sherry. Think what it would be like for your own dog if you were no longer around. Mason is a kill shelter. Sherry has lots more years of life in her. She needs a new person to love.

"SHERRY IS URGENT - This poor girl was found in the house with her dead owner after he passed away. It is believed she was in the house with him for several days before he was found. She is depressed and needs to get out of the shelter ASAP.

At first glance I thinks she may have some St Bernard in her and maybe Golden Retriever? She is about 8 years old and about 60lbs right now, but is very very overweight. Her ideal weight is about 35 or 40 lbs."

Here is a plea for the life of this puppy. He needs a Rescue ASAP!

"This is Buster~ He is cute, Friendly, Hyper, Smart, Playful & in a shelter thats full of other dogs cuter, smaller and with a better chance of getting out alive.
HE is only 6 months old and came into the shelter 3 weeks ago. He was very shy & submissive at first, but is now doing much better. He LOVES to sit in your lap & just be with you. He is super loyal and loves attention~ He is the kind of dog that will grow up and be perfect for kids, and a loyal dog who just wants to please!
He needs a RESCUE! NOW~~~~~~~~ The shelter is so full! We have 20 dogs coming in a day, and less than 5 adoptions per day. He is just so full of life!

Remember Dozer, the dog with severe heartworm?
http://itsrainingcatsdogsglixman.blogspot.com/2007/11/rottie-dozer-doesnt-feel-so-good-he.html

Here is the update on Dozer from his foster mom sent to the Mason Rescue Group.

"I am long overdue for a very Dozer update! Where to start, where to start…
The great thing is that Dozer is really eager to please, and responds well to reprimands (as when he went for my kitty) and praises. Gosh, he really is a sweet dog...he enjoys playing, walking, jogging, but also just sitting with us. He'll lie down with his head and front paws on my lap, and just appreciates the company. Sometimes I can tell he's a little sad, and I wonder what his life was like before. Such a smart, responsive dog. He's so gentle and actually behaves like he's been exposed to children before (ie, he tolerates me hanging on him, giving him love, and he curls up like a lap dog).

Have you ever had a dog turn on you? And I don't mean bite, but just express annoyance or upset if he is scolded or made to do something he doesn't want to do? (I assume so, working with so many animals) All of my past rotties did that; they made it clear when they were unhappy, though they would never really retaliate. Dozer is exceptional. He never expresses anything but an eagerness to please, and does things--like goes into his crate for bedtime--without much resistance.
Where we do have a problem is my cat. He wants to get at her. She's been hanging out upstairs, and he downstairs, which has been working fine and will work for a bit longer. But he's definitely can't be adopted into a home with cats.
As he's gotten more comfortable, Dozer has gotten more difficult for my mom to handle when I'm away during the day. I actually think (unfortunately because he'll be leaving here) that he's gotten attached to me being around…the one who can run and really play with him…and then gets a little ornery when I am not around. Ornery in that he bounds about the downstairs looking for me and voices his discontent with barks and cries. So my mom is pretty stressed out. Hopefully we can get him adopted sooner rather than later!
He looks A LOT better already. He's gained some weight (maybe 7 lbs) and we keep clean and brushed. He doesn't shed much, which is nice. He's kept having diarrhea off and on, so he's been subsisting on rice and chicken and the occasion treat. I think maybe the pills we gave him a few days ago turned his tummy back into upset mode. But he drinks a lot and doesn't seem dehydrated or uncomfortable. Just has runny poop.
He's doing great with commands, sit, come, stay. I've tried to nurse him off the gentle leader, but it might be best to stick with it! He's doing well with heeling, but will pull after squirrels. He tried to get at road kill yesterday. Yuck.
I have a friend who may be interested in adopting Dozer."

Transport to Northeast 2/18 /The Endless Well of Urgent Animals/ Bowling Green Kentucky Shelter Overflowing

Animal lovers and rescuers are amazing human beings. In the face of the endless stream of abandoned animals, they continue to go forward to save lives. Please look at these faces and help in anyway you can. I just cannot comprehend why there are not stricter laws against animal abandonment, why people are allowed to dump their pets at shelters and then get get new ones. I think anyone who leaves a pet at a high kill shelter should never be allowed to own an animal again. Since they consider their pet disposable why should they have the privilege of taking a precious animal into their lives only to later say sorry, can't keep them.

"After an exhausting week and sending out 153 dogs and puppies to rescues in the past 5 days and euthing 15 today for space, the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society shelter is again OVERFLOWING! They are BEGGING and PLEADING for rescues and adopters to step up and save dogs. They are transporting to the northeast on 2/23 and can bring a LOT of dogs up on this transport. They just need rescues to start committing by Monday 2/18 so they can get vetting done in time for transport. PLEASE, PLEASE, if you have any foster space, check out their website and contact Deana & Lorri ASAP!"

There are so many wonderful dogs and cats at this shelter. There are puppies, kittens, purebreeds, all american mutts. Please save a life. There are too many too post. Please check out the Petfinder site

Judy is sponsored $35, so she can go home fully vetted for $40!!! WooHoo!!! INTAKE DATE: 10/30
AGE: 2 YEARS
Judy is a sweetie who has been waiting for a new home for FOUR MONTHS!!! Every time people walk by her cage, she gets up and presses herself against the cage bars until they have walked past. You can almost see her dissapointment. Sometimes I wonder if she knows what's happening when other kitties are taken out of their cages and put into the arms of loving adopters. I wonder if she knows where they're going and where SHE'S NOT going. Please consider adopting one of our longest residents. Judy is a good girl who deserves all of the love in the world. Look at Last Picture on this Post/Lemon and White Beagle EUTH DATE Friday February 15

Uno made it big at the fancy dog show. It is about time beagles get recognized. There are many beagles in need of homes. Here are a few.

"My name is Valentino, but you can call me Tino. My foster Mom told HART to relate this better description on their web site. I'm not quite sure how I wound up homeless, but I'm just looking for someone to love me as much as I'll love them. I'm kind of reserved in public places - I want you to know that I can be on my best behavior. When I get home though, I like to let my hair down! I play really well with dogs and people of all sizes. In fact, I'd love to go to a home with another dog. My foster mom says I'm Houdini reincarnated because I like to make a break for it on occasion. I never really go too far, but do enjoy my 'adventure outings.' As much as I love to be around kids, I probably shouldn't go to a home with someone younger than 10 because of my love of 'adventure outing'. Mom says to tell you that I walk well on a leash and know how to take a treat like a true Southern gentleman. My new home should not have cats or any small critters. I'm a very good hunting dog and might mistake your critters for a toy. Please come visit me at the Greenbriar Petco events. For more information, please see our website listing for Valentino or contact nlt060@yahoo.com."

"Valentine is a very shy, very unsocialized beagle, who had babies about two months ago, and is now looking for a home. She will no doubt need another dog in her home with her, and a fenced in yard is a requirement for her, since she has a 'flight' look in her eyes whenever she is frightened. She has a loving foster mom who has worked hard to establish a relationship with her, but even so, it is going to be a long-time committment to making friends. Apply online to adopt, at www.humanecampbell.org."

Coweta-9 Dogs scheduled for Euth 2/12! Coweta NEEDS HELP!

Harley is scheduled to be pts on 2/12 , Family dumped this sweet dog.Because they could find no responsible solution( if they even tried) they dumped Harley at a high kill shelter. How could they walk away knowing this could be his fate? Some people are irresponsible with their children and their pets. When dogs are owner surrendered they are often given less time to be adopted. In some pounds they are given less than a week.

STOP ANIMAL FIGHTING IN WEST VIRGINIA

After the whole Michael Vick's trial you'd think people would think twice before participating in animal fighting. But for many the thought of being charged with a crime for supporting animal fighting is no deterrent. Help stop animal fighting in West Virginia. LAILA THE BOXER ON HER WAY TO MASON*RESCUED!!!!!

This little girl Laila is on her way to Mason. She is probably between 1-3 years and has had her rabies shot. She will still need to be spayed before going to rescue.

If you are interested in Laila contact

mcasrescues- owner@yahoogroup s.com

"Found female black/brown brendel boxer in Hurricane, WV. She has adorable lopsided ears and a docked tail. She has white tipped paws and small white markings on her chest and up under her chin. She is probably only around a year and looks to have had a litter, but is not lactating. Very friendly with me, daughter, golden retriever and my three cats. She's been running our neighborhood for the last few weeks. She's now very happy to be in a warm home with food, water and a warm quilt on the couch. She is a super sweet dog and deserves a good home. "

From the person who took Laila in and called the shelter
