Check out cats.athenspets.net to see some available kitties!
Cats and kittens are now available for general adoption and there are quite a few ready for their forever homes! The cat shelter is open for volunteers and visitors 10-4 every day except for Wednesday. Please come by to play with some kitties!
Adoption Fee: $50
Reclaim and adoption fees are the same as for dogs. All adopted cats will receive certain health screenings, vaccinations, a microchip for identification, and be spayed or neutered in compliance with the Georgia Sterilization Act.
The cat shelter is accepting donations of cat food (wet or dry), cat litter (non-clumping only), towels, blankets, toys, and quality crates.  If you have anything else you’d like to donate, please give them a call and see if it’s something they need.
We will update the cats when possible, but it may not be as frequently as the dogs since our volunteers may not always have time to make it to the cat shelter.  If you’ve lost a kitty or are looking for one to adopt, please stop by the cat shelter or give them a call since all impounded cats may not be pictured.

31521 RIP BEAUTIFUL BOY. THE SHELTER DID NOT GIVE YOU ENOUGH TIME . KILL SHELTER MUST CHANGE. How anyone could look in your face full of life and kill you is beyond me. SHELTERS MUST STOP RATIONALIZING THESE KILLINGS. THERE IS NO HUMANE EUTHANASIA FOR CATS LIKE PAN.  OR FOR ANY BUT SICK OR VICIOUS ANIMALS. NO SPACE FOR A TINY CAT LIKE PAN. THESE SHELTERS CANNOT EVEN SEE WHAT CRUELTY THEY PERPETUATE BY DEALING WIT HOMELESS PETS IN THIS DISPOSABLE WAY.  ALL THE HATS AND BANDANAS ETC. IN THE PICTURES DO NOT HIDE THE FACT THAT THESE ANIMALS WILL BE KILLED IF NOT RESCUED OR ADOPTED ASAP. AND KILLING OWNER SURRENDERS FIRST IS CRAZINESS.   DOES THIS SHELTER   TRY TO HELP OWNERS KEEP THEIR PETS? WHAT DO THEY DO?  I am sorry if this offends anyone. Cats like Pan are being killed and this is truly offensive. There are shelters reducing their euth rates and finding ways to extend the time up limit.

Why choose Pan?
Pan is going to grow up and be absolutely stunning.  Right now he needs a little bit of grooming, but is still very handsome.  He is a tiny bit timid here, but with a little love he’ll be a confident cat.  He liked the attention, and was the only cat today to pose for his pictures!  Come meet Pan today!

Thanks, Ryan. The Internet reaches so many people. The more people that crosspost the pictures and information about death row cats and dogs the more lives are saved.

Surely there must be a better way than killing pets some rescue, but i do agree the more we post and tell others the more we will save.

Hi Peter, There are better ways.

Here are a couple links to people that are trying to change the way we think about pets and shelters. Thanks for responding. Are you aware that pets from shelters often need transport to their new homes? There are paying transport companies and also individuals help. If you are ever interested you can check on FB or contact any rescues in your area. Often too on pet forums they post transport needs for pets.

Please feel free to crosspost the posts about animals on this blog and post links to these kill shelters and rescues. When you adopt from a rescue they can save another life from the kill shelters. Thanks for caring.
