We have someone willing to look into getting her fixed if she’s not, and vetted…but no place to go afterwards. Woman who found cat is allergic to cats.

Hey,
There's the sweetest kitty hanging around our building. She (I think) has a collar but no tag. We think she was dumped by someone that works around here. There are feral cats that hang in our parking lot and some ladies in our building who feed them. My guess is that someone figured if they dumped the cat here, she'd get fed. But this cat was owned by someone and had a home. I'm passing along pics in case you know of anybody who might want her. I'd be happy to put up money for a vet check.

6/28/11Vance County Animal Shelter, in Henderson, NC. USES GAS CHAMBER ON INNOCENT ANIMALS GASES ADULTS

Vance County Animal Shelter, in Henderson, NC. is on my ***** list. I cannot understand how this archaic inhumane barbaric practice still exists. I am surprised they don't gas the puppies or maybe they do. How can these people live with themselver, not even giving adult animals a pain free death. PLEASE RESCUE ADOPT FOSTER animals at this shelter. Please support the END OF GAS CHAMBERS.

The Vance County Animal Shelter is FULL! PLEASE help our shelter pets. We currently have 55 puppies, 15 kittens, and A LOT of adult dogs. I snapped pictures of puppies while at the shelter on Saturday dropping off pets that we didn't adopt out at the adopt-a-thon. We only had 4 adoptions and 10 surrenders on Saturday. I am very sorry that I do not have all of the information on the puppies. I will try to help the shelter update Petfinder tomorrow. All adult dogs are not pictured.

The following dogs and cats are located at the Vance County Animal Shelter in Henderson, NC. Please contact Angie at adm0403@yahoo.com and the shelter at 252- 492-3136 if you can help.

These pets are also posted on the Advocates for Vance County Shelter Animals, Facebook page (link below) and Petfinder.

Right now he's in 4th place in his category!

In my years as a rescuer there is one success story that sticks out the most.  It is about a dog that came from an abusive home and ended up a K-9 police dog for Chatham County Sheriff's Department in Savannah, GA.  Malaki is a mix between Black Labrador and Boxer.  His former owner was turned in for animal abuse by his neighbors.  They reported him for trying to make Malaki aggressive, even trying to teach him to go after children, which is something they said they witnessed.  After Malaki’s owner was charged, Malaki was brought to Liberty County Animal Control and had to remain there until after his owner's court date.  That was in April 2009.  The court decided the owner was not fit to get Malaki back; which finally gave me the chance to find a new home for him.  When I first saw Malaki, I was cautioned by the Animal Control officers that he might be aggressive.  I was very careful when handling him but I soon found out that Malaki was just a big goof ball who loved nothing more than tennis balls.  I noticed that he became completely entranced with the tennis ball whenever I took him to the exercise field behind the AC kennels.  He focused on that ball as if his life depended on it.  One day, after playing with Malaki, I told my husband about him and his curious obsession.  My husband became immediately interested and wanted to meet him.  He told me that the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department was in need of a new K-9 and why shouldn’t they save a life in the process of acquiring one!  Once he met Malaki, he told the K-9 department of him and they agreed to meet him for an assessment.  Usually dog’s are not allowed to be removed from AC and then come back but in this case, the AC director made an exception.  Malaki sailed through the assessment with flying colors!  That’s when I scheduled him for SNAC where he was neutered, vaccinated and Heart Worm tested.  Thankfully, the test came back negative – We held our breath for that because that would have been a deal breaker.  Once he returned from SNAC, he went straight to the Sheriff’s Department where he began his official training.  Here is a link to a news article, speaking about how it turned out for him: http://savannahnow.com/node/626887 (Sorry for the misprint on me being the shelter director!  Savannah Now did a correction on that the next day.)  This story was printed in many news papers, even as far away as Atlanta, GA and was broad cast on all local TV stations "

"Hi there everyone! My name is Katura, a girl calico kitty (short coat) about ten months old (in March 2011). I came from Sunbeam Road, which is fitting because I have such a sunny disposition and I'm rather like a lovely sunbeam! My name too was a clever one because it is made up from the letters U.R.A and Kat (you are a kat). And I'll share something else with you! I came to the shelter on St.
Patrick's Day, and I do hope that brings me luck! The proof of that is when you take this loving and gentle calico girl home with you, and I will see the shine in your eyes, just as you will see the shine in mine! And we will be together for always, and won't that be divine? But please make it soon my dears, as we don't get so very long, to please you and make you love us with our joyful song!

Oh, and I also have to say, sweet and lovely Katura will surely have her spay!

" Hello there friends! Me name is Sugar Ray, a boy orange and white kitty (short coat), maybe three years old (give or take a year) in June 2011. I came from Market Street and I was the undisputed champion of the street and I have me some battle scars to prove it (but you should see the other guy)!"Read more about this orange boy.

6/10/2011 "Norton was a walking skeleton when brought to PAL. He had bite/puncture wounds all over his body. We suspect he was a bait dog." Palmetto Animal League Okatie, SC "we must stop the cycle of animal cruelty and neglect."

CROSS POSTING!!!

Subject: Norton
To: Mark dj@hargray.com

I could send an email every single day relaying a sad animal story, but
restrain myself.

However, when we get a case like Norton I feel like I have to shout from the
roof tops that we must stop the cycle of animal cruelty and neglect.  This
is why PAL and other rescue groups exist.

Norton was a walking skeleton when brought to PAL.  He was found on the side
of the road in Jasper County, so weak he could not walk.  He was full of
hook worms and fleas.  (No ticks since there was barely any blood for them
to survive!)  He had bite/puncture wounds all over his body.  We suspect he
was a bait dog.  His is young and unaltered.

Norton (named by a volunteer) was placed in ICU after arrival at PAL.
Within hours his sweet spirit shined through.  Yesterday he was much
improved after 4 days of food and fluids (and a flea bath).  Amazingly, he
appears loving to everyone and his tail does not stop wagging.  The
forgiving nature of dogs always inspires me.

When you see a case like Norton a piece of your heart is torn apart and your
faith in humankind is challenged.  But the wonderful people who rescue and
nurse animals like Norton back to health and, of course, those who adopt
animals like him, all help mend your heart.

Please give animals a second chance at life.  Think about adopting or
volunteering at PAL's Adoption Center.  Although we have a facility full of
healthy and adorable kittens, puppies, cats and dogs, many have required
extensive veterinary/medical care which is a huge expense to the
organization.  Plus we begin our "$9 for 9 Lives" campaign, adopting adult
cats for just $9 each--which means less money coming into PAL from
adoptions, but hopefully more animals finding great homes. So donations are
always appreciated as well!

Thanks for letting me vent.  These innocent creatures rely on us to help!

June 8, 2011 "beautiful lab/chow mix " Chapel Needs New Home Georgia

CONTACT: Petra at newbeginningsanimalrescue@gmail.com or after 6 pm at 912-369-0424
This e-mail is from Petra
"I was approached to help with finding a new home for this handsome boy - picture attached.  Chapel was adopted from Save a Life at the Savannah, GA Pet Smart when he was about 8 weeks old. He is now 5 1/2 years old. He is a beautiful lab/chow mix and weighs about 60 pounds. He is very healthy, is neutered and is current on shots (last shots on Jan 3, 2011), is HW negative and is on regular heartworm and flea prevention medication.

Chapel is smart, and he is very loyal and loving to the people he knows. He has never been anything but sweet to his family, including the 3 children in the home. His current owners say that it breaks their hearts but they feel they have no choice but to rehome Chapel... They explained that, on 3 different occasions over the past year, he has nipped 3 small children that were visiting the home. He is NOT aggressive and did not attack them; however, he is very protective of his home and gets nervous and frightened around small children. He has never bitten an adult, although he is very protective when strangers are at the door. He just becomes very skittish when young, small children are around. Since his current family has many children come in and out of their home, they made the choice to seek help in finding him another home, perhaps with an older couple that does not have children or grandchildren and where he can continue to receive a lot of love.

If you are interested in helping Chapel, please contact Petra at newbeginningsanimalrescue@gmail.com or feel free to call me after 6 pm at 912-369-0424."

Please remember to Spay/Neuter your pet.  The number one cause of death in healthy animals in the US is euthanasia. Please adopt!

6/4/11 Just What the World Needs, The City Of Monessen PA is ROUNDING UP Stray Cats and Killing Them. Much Opposition to This. The Mayor is NOT Listening. Isn't She Suppose to Listen to Her Constituents?

As I understand this she  had cats killed who were in TNR colonies.

The following is taken from  a blog about the situation. The link is at the bottom of this excerpt. This truly disgusts me.  It seems the Mayor is refusing to consider life saving options. Why  would a person choose killing these cats when there are other options? I would say a person who does this has a deep disregard for animals  or  is incapable of solving problems in  constructive ways. Why is it that the weak, the innocent, those without power are the ones people like this Mayor and the people in city government don't think twice about killing or in the case of people stopping  food stamps like they did or are doing to the disabled and seniors in New Mexico(vulnerable populations) ? If these cats  had a Union or connections or money she maybe would think twice. It does not speak well of a person or society that tries to solve problems by taking the lives (or effecting adversely- talking starvation or malnutrition in N.M.) of those who did not create the problem. Our government officials on all levels do not seem to know how to solve problems. These cats are victims of a city whose officials think killing is the answer. You tell me, would you want to live in a place like that? Read the rest and decide.

"Save the cats of Monessen!

I read this letter today in the Washington Observer Reporter.

Killing cats not a good solution

Since the time of the pre-Socratic Pythagoras, prominent figures in the Western intellectual tradition have noted the relationship between our treatment of animals and our moral development. That wisdom appears to be lost on the city of Monessen as the city council has decided to promote the indiscriminate killing of homeless and owned cats who have the misfortune to be lured by baited traps.
Why are they killing cats in Monessen? Because some people have complained that they are using their yards as litterboxes. The mayor boasts she has the support of PETA.
Two questions need to be answered. Why are there homeless cats in Monessen? The answer is because irresponsible owners fail to spay or neuter their pets and keep them on their property. The second question is: Why does PETA support killing while inaccurately calling it euthanasia? The answer is because they claim that homeless cats lead horrible lives and are better off dead. While that may be true, without human intervention, it flies in the face of the facts. Homeless cats that are spayed or neutered and vaccinated (TNR) and cared for in a managed colony do very well and have the same disease rates as their owned counterparts and about the same life expectancy. Just ask Homeless Cats Management Team in Pittsburgh. They have spayed or neutered over 12,200 homeless cats.
It seems to me that the city council of Monessen has two options. The first is to continue on its current course and become known as "the cat-killing capitol of Pennsylvania." The outcome of which as predicted based on the vaccum theory is that once the cats are removed, the vacuum left will refill in no time. The second option is to sit down with feral cat experts and divise a compassionate, humane solution and become known as "the city were justice and reason prevailed." The choice is theirs to make, but it will be interesting to see if this small mill town secluded along the river has the moral fortitude to stay the course of justice.

Monessen, not only the lives of the cats but your reputation is at stake.

Faith Bjalobok
McMurray
I am asking all of the people who love cats, who care for cats, and who are sickened by cat killing to please call the Mayor of Monessen and tell her just what you think about her cat murdering policy.
