" Dear Supporter of Humane Euthanasia in North Carolina"

Dear Supporter of Humane Euthanasia in North Carolina:

Mr. McCrory personally met with our blue ribbon panel yesterday and
expressed his concern and support for animal welfare issues and
programs. Our blue ribbon panel felt very comfortable with Mr.
McCrory's level of commitment to addressing this long overdue issue.
In the coming days and weeks our steering committee's blue ribbon
panelists will be meeting with N.C. Democractic Candidate Bev
Perdue's policy staff as well as other concerned interests.
Concurrently, however, the democratic process of passing legislation
also requires that YOU take an active role as well.

Every NC resident who cares about mandating injection as the only
permissible manner of euthanasia of companion animals who have been
lost, abandoned, or surrendered to municipal animal pounds MUST seek
a meeting with their General Assembly representatives in their
district offices in the next two months. The purpose of the meeting
is to ask them to introduce the legislation we are drafting,
mandating euthanasia only by injection with few exceptions.

You can find your State House and State Senate representative's
district office phone numbers at http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/homePage.pl

Please make both appointments and inform us of the date and time so
we can arrange for someone to accompany you. We MUST get this
legislation introduced and passed during the first 31 days of January
2009. Therefore we only have between now and the next three months to
find sponsors in both chambers, as well as get the agreement of the
chairpersons of committees to pass it out of committee and send it
to the floor for a vote. Once November and December roll by the
holidays prevent any appreciable access to state representatives for meetings.

Thank you for your passion for finally ending the horrific manners of
killing former family pets in North Carolina. THIS LEGISLATION WILL
NOT PASS UNLESS YOU BEGIN TO SEEK THESE MEETINGS NOW !!

Companion Animal Network (“C.A.N.”) has advised, among other municipalities, New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, New York State Senator Frank Padavan, and numerous other public officials on animal control policies and has been acknowledged by the New York City Council with Resolution #985 for educating its members on the animal control problems of New York City. C.A.N. was the architect of the reforms in animal control which came about as a result in New York City, which consequently brought $15 million in grants to its animal control services.
