"We are concerned about this facility is a high kill shelter,” said protestor Carol Gilbert.
"So far this year, the shelter has taken in approximately 4,400 animals. Of that, 217 have been adopted, 700 rescued from outside groups and nearly 3,000 put down."
"Watch the news report of this morning's protest which we organized at the gas killing demonstrations being held in Gastonia, NC. This is a 3 day seminar where they will be gassing shelter dogs. Our lead organizer, Rhonda Blake, is unable to hold a protest the next two days of the seminar as she must be back at work. If anyone is near Gastonia and would be willing to be the focal point for tomorrow or the next day, we would be virtually assured of getting more media. Getting news exposure of this topic is the best way of lobbying the NC General Assembly members whom we will be asking to introduce legislation requiring injection only in NC. If we cannot show up the next two days to protest we are missing two golden opportunities to get mainstream exposure and lobbying done.

Companion Animal Network (“C.A.N.”) has advised, among other municipalities, New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, New York State Senator Frank Padavan, and numerous other public officials on animal control policies and has been acknowledged by the New York City Council with Resolution #985 for educating its members on the animal control problems of New York City. C.A.N. was the architect of the reforms in animal control which came about as a result in New York City, which consequently brought $15 million in grants to its animal control services.
