UPDATE 7/29 July 28, 2009 Dead Cats. This is What Happens When People Do Not Take Responsibility.

"Collier County Animal Services still kills at an astonishing rate, while maintaining animals in dilapidated and cruel conditions"

These cats are all dead. Read more at:
http://www.nathanwinograd.com/?p=1466

Why are there so many cats, kittens, dogs and puppies at shelters and why are so many killed daily? The shelter system is filled with kittens and puppies who will die. If the owners had them fixed the animal control officer would not have to gas them or stick a needle in their tiny veins or in their heart. There is an economic down turn. I understand but there are low cost spay and neuter clinics and vouchers. Letting dogs and cats have babies now is criminal.
I know of two shelters in KY, one that has not euthanized for space in a year and one that does everything in its power to find good homes for the shelter animals and not kill. But these shelters are overflowing and many of the animals are babies and they can not hold off from killing much longer.

Please look at the petfinder listing of these shelters and help if you can. Rescue or Adopt.
These are only 2 shelters in one state.

Subject: Shelbyville, KY: No Kill status in Shelbyville, KY is in serious jeopardy...HELP!!!

My friends of rescue,

I know I have been doing this a lot lately, but, this weekend, only ONE dog left the shelter and more came in. James is rapidly approaching the point of no return. It has been more than one year since anyone has had to die because of space…don’t let the streak end this week. James is very good about not putting anyone down and putting animals everywhere if the animals are spoken for. They also have VERY temporary foster homes for animals committed to rescue.

The animals are begging for their lives…please don’t make them die…PLEASE! I know some of you are breed specific or cross posters such as myself, but, please look and forward on…the more cross posters the more rescues get a look.

ANIMALS WILL DIE WITHOUT OUR HELP!!! HURRY!!! TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!!

James’ contact info is below with the link to the website. If you see someone you want for next weekend and you don’t want to wait, you may email me or call me and I will get the info to James ASAP. I know we have 4 kittens moving to WI next Saturday, but nothing else in stone. I will be happy to set up transport for anyone who wants it.

National statistics:
Only 1 out of 10 dogs born ever get a home. Only 1 out of 12 cats born ever find a home. 800 dogs & cats are KILLED each HOUR in the U.S, because there are not enough homes for them.

Saving one animal may not change the world, but, it will surely change the world for that one animal

Post subject: 2 more cubicles, then they die, Leitchfield, KY

Grayson County Humane Society
There are now 22 cages in the hallway, office and bathroom at Grayson County Humane Society, filled with multiple cats. The situation is critical - there are 2 small cubicles available, each to hold 1 cat - then euthanasia will have to begin. There is just no more room.

Please, rescues, if you can only take one, then DO SO now, before it's too late. Many cats are fully sponsored and free to rescue. There will be transport this weekend from Leitchfield to the Chicagoland area, so now is the time for rescues there to step up and help. We will bring these kitties literally to your door.

There are adult cats, young cats, and kittens. There are tabbies, calicos, shorthairs, longhairs, you name it, it's there waiting for you. Please - Grayson cats need you now.

Here are some of the babies in danger:

Mensah

Maeve

Pippi

Pout

Magnificat

Mystery

Evelene

Gibson

And so many, many more. You can see them all here:

http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY103.html

If you can help, please email donna at dwhite@aggressiveonline.net, or call the shelter at 270-230-8839. Thank you.

VERY FEW HAVE LEFT :( New that I'm aware of are two s/n'd ones, a mom w/3 kittens, some teenage kittens, etc.....

Great NEWS for Licking cats: Effective April 17th, 2009

Cats that are now being brought into the Licking Co. Animal Shelter are triaged and the ones that appear healthy and tame are vaccinated with Eclipse 3. The date of the vaccination is being recorded on their collar and they are placed in pen room that is isolated from other cats that are ill or are suspected of being ill. Where appropriate, these other cats are being treated with antibiotics under the direction of a veterinarian. This veterinarian has been coming into the shelter on a weekly basis & performing a wellness check. Respectfully, Jon Luzio, Director, Licking Co. Animal Control

I would be happy to pull any of them & hold/ quarantine till next week if that works better?

MOST have sponsor money available to rescues!!! (Sponsors needed....)

If you live in Licking County (or close), please visit the shelter & save a life... At the very least, pls crosspost this to anyone you know that loves cats & might help!!!! Thank you so much!!

(544 Dog Leg Rd., Heath, OH; 11-4:30 M-F & Noon-4:00 Sat)

Only your rescue efforts keep this shelter from being an EXTREMELY high-kill facility, so these cats need your help ASAP as the shelter gets in far more cats than they can place locally.....

Please let me know if you can help by rescuing or sponsoring one of these kitties.....

send the pic/number of the one(s) you want to help to: shelleymmc@aol.com

We have transport available from Columbus to Toledo & Chicago areas weekly,

AND we will arrange transports to other areas if you can help!!!

NOTE: Transport this week arrives in Toledo on Thurs, 7/30/09

Pics of cats can be seen at:
