It's October 1, which marks the beginning of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! Every year, approximately 3.9 million dogs enter shelters and only 35% are adopted (statistics from the ASPCA). So if you're considering bringing a dog into your life, check your local shelter instead of a breeder.
You should also consider adopting an older dog or a special needs dog, as they are the least likely to be adopted. There are concerns about the dog's life span or quality of life, but with the examples below you'll see that these dogs live amazing lives and love with their whole hearts.
