This little guy is about 7 years old and is one of 5 Cocker Spaniels turned in to the Bullitt County Animal Shelter by a breeder.  All 5 of them have tested POSITIVE for heartworms.  There are 4 females and 1 male.  The male is in the worse shape of them all but every one of them are in desperate need of grooming and medical attention.  Hilltop Haven has pulled the Cockers from the shelter and has started the process of shaving them to relieve them of the massive mats they have stuck to their skin.  There are additional pictures for you to see on our website if you choose of Delsie shaving this guy.  His collar and flea collar were so twisted in his hair you could not move them.  They had to be cut then the hair cut from them just to get them off.  Feces were caked and matted around his hind end, feet and ears.  He is being taken to the vet first thing in the morning to have him sedated just to clean and treat his ears and cut away the mats.  They are that infected.  Both eyes are infected and he has a fungus on his face.  His whole belly from his neck to his legs is hairless.  This is just what is seen on the surface.
Needless to say, there will be substantial costs to seeing that these poor dogs receive the attention they need.  If there is ever a time that your help is needed, it is now.  The original estimate to have them vetted and receive treatment for their heartworms was $1500.00.  With what is being seen as they are attended to, it could very well surpass that.
We have a Good Samaritan that has offered to match up to $600.00 in donations.
Please help these babies receive the medical treatment they need!
If we are blessed enough to receive donations exceeding the required costs the remainder will go to help other animals in need.
