It's Raining Cats and Dogs in West Virginia and Other States-Shelters that Euthanize for Space

"Lux a young neutered staffordshire terrier in Newington , CT is living on borrowed time. Supposed to have been euthanized a couple of days ago, he was granted a couple of more days because he such a sweetheart. I know the attached pictures look horrible, I asked for better ones, but was unable to get them. Officer DeSimone said the following of Lux "In speaking with the employees at CT K9, this dog appears to get along well with people and does not appear to be aggressive. They have not tried to put Lux with other dogs".

Please call Officer Jamie DeSimone at 860-594-6232 if you can offer Lux a chance to find his forever home. Of course as always, I am more than willing to transport Lux to rescues and other shelters.

"Duke is at the New Britain Pound. I don't have any personal information about him because I am not permitted to temperment test the dogs anymore. Officer at the pound tells me he appears to be good with other dogs. He has been in his kennel for a month with no time out for play or interaction. He was licking my hand through the kennel door. Stocky guy around 50 - 55 lbs. Handsome.

Here are the dogs available for adoption/rescue here at the shelter. PLEASE NOTE: ALL the dogs in this email have to be moved ASAP! I've included Date of Intake (DOI) which shows EVERY dog has been here longer than the 3-5 business days we're required to keep them. The later the DOI is on a dog the more URGENT they are! We almost have both kennels FULL!

2 Lab/Airedale pups (ID# 61235) Big Bog (male) and Little Girl (female) are black/white, DOB 3/31/12. They're owner releases. The owner is elderly and had a lot of dogs that he can no longer care for. They're brother Big Boy got adopted last week!

Boz (ID# 53113) is a large male brindle bulldog mix, approximately 2 years. He was a stray picked up in Chiefland so we have no background info on him. He appears to be a friendly good boy. He's HW negative. DOI = 5/31. Donation = $150.

Chevy (ID# 6610) is a large female brindle bulldog mix, approximately 1 year. He was owner released because the owner had too many dogs and can't take care of them all. As you can see from the pics she could use a little fatting up! She appears to be a good girl. She's approximately 1 year. DOI = 6/6. Donation = $125

Diesel (ID# 5317) is a large male brindle bulldog mix, approximately 8 months. He's a stray picked up in Chiefland so we have no background info on him. He appears to be a good boy. It looks like he has a lite skin condition. He's HW negative.

Gemma (ID# 61219) is a medium brindle/white heeler/JRT mix born 10/11. She's an owner release. My neighbor had her and he didn't have a yard so she was roaming the streets. I was afraid she'd get hit by a car so I talked him into releasing her to us in hope in hopes of her getting adopted by a nice family with a fenced yard. She's good with kids, dogs, cats, livestock & horses. He said she was housetrained. She's a very sweet girl. I've seen her around little kids and she's great! I've seen her around dogs and she's really friendly. She really needs kids to play with. She's a busy girl. She's HW negative. DOI = 6/12.

Hank (ID# 683) is a medium male black/tan hound mix, approximately 7 months. Someone found her as a stray in Bronson and dropped her off here. He appears to be a friendly good boy. HW negative. His DOI = 6/8. Donation = $20

Jimbo (ID# 61144) is a large male brindle lab/cur mix, approximately 1 year. He's a stray found running around the landfill in Bronson so we have no background info on him. He appears to be a good friendly boy. HW negative. Donation = $20
DOI = 6/11.

Lily (ID# 686) is a large female tri hound, approximately 3 years. She's a stray that was running around the road department with Lulu so we have no background info on them. They both appear friendly but in poor shape, skinny & long nails, etc. HW negative.

I was contacted today about a Momma Lab & her baby. They appeared about a week ago to a house in the country. (friend of a friend) The momma was/is emaciated, scarred, and hurting. (although her pup is very healthy!) The woman has fed her and now momma appears a little better. She is still in need of immediate medical attention! Her pup is still nursing....appears to be about 4 months old!

Momma is SO sweet! Just wants to lay in your lap and be petted. Pup is active and playful!!

Both are still outdoors, fighting the elements!!

Euthanasia Protocol Research Animals. I came upon this site by accident. It is yet another example of how animals are mistreated by people. The use of live animals for research has been debated and many prestigious medical school are seeing the light, stopping the cruel use of live animals and using computer models. They are aware of what little value the research on these pets is and have become more humane and innovative. Kudos to them.Will this disgusting method of scientific inquiry ever end? You bet it will if we all take notice and say no more.

Many times animals who are loving, docile and easy to handle are the ones who are mutilated and cut open among other things and killed when the experiments are done.I cannot ever condone this. Never. What is in the the hearts of these people who break bones and harm these animals repeatedly in the name of science? To me they have completely lost any humanity and are so desensitized by their rational mind they have no idea what they are doing.

I knew a medical person who was asked to work with beagles that the scientist had purposely blinded. He could not do it and that is what all scientist need to do. Refuse to be part of these atrocities. In the protocol it says euthanasia is performed when an animal is in pain or distress. Well who caused this pain and distress? The dog or cat was not in that state before the scientists did all their dirty work and for what? Do you know toothpaste is tested on cats? There is no torture here but often these cats are killed after the toothpaste experiments. Cosmetic experiments on rabbits is another disgusting practice. Putting toxic substances in rabbits eyes as they are restrained in some type of rigid box structure. Ask yourself, what has happened to the human heart/soul to the human's mind ability to reason to do good? What has happened to these people who in the name of many absurd experiments abuse animals?

This is a dog/ cat rescue blog but this is just another example of the cruelty inflicted on animals everywhere whether it is in factory farms or ineffective shelters. Urgent dogs: Moe is making such progress! After his initial nervousness,
he is jumping onto volunteers' laps to be petted! Piper has always been
friendly and is filling out and looking so good! These are the last of the
surrendered dogs from the hoarder, and they deserve a better life!

Poor Bounder isn't being given the consideration he deserves! He is such a
good dog, even a little shy! A local 4-H group sponsored him for $60 and a
rescue friend added $40 to make $100 sponsorship for Bounder, which covers
his vetting. Please give him a chance!

Regarding transports: We have transport coordinator/driver assistance to
northeastern states. So if you are north or east of WV, we can transport
closer to you. If you are west or south of WV, you will need to make your
own transport arrangements. For long distance, try

volunteer transport drivers in PA along I-81 and I-78 east of 81 to the NJ
border (Hagerstown MD, Mechanicsburg PA, Hamburg PA, Allentown PA &

Rescues: If you would like to rescue from our shelter, please submit our rescue

(link above). Once approved, you can respond to alerts and offer to pull
dogs/order vetting. Vetting must be paid for directly to our vet on or
before the day of vetting. Spay/neuter is mandatory/health permitting. We
provide vet contact info once you confirm a dog/cat. We have a rescue
building where we can house dogs for up to 2 weeks (at no charge) after
they are vetted while transport is arranged. We are PA licensed to work
with PA-based rescues.

Sponsors: Sponsorships are welcome and greatly appreciated but they do not
guarantee the safety of an urgent animal if that animal does not have a
rescue commitment. They do tend to increase the likelihood that a dog will
be chosen by a rescue though! Please email us to inquire if you are
interested in sponsoring a dog or cat.

Adopters: Please email us to request an adoption application. If you live
near our shelter, please visit in person to adopt. Long distance adopters
must work with one of our pre-screened rescues local to you in order to
adopt. Most of our rescue contacts are in northeastern states.

I am no longer welcome at the pound to spend time with the dogs , evaluate them and report my findings to you for rescue consideration. The ACO, Officer Russo, will not allow the dogs out of their kennels for me, for rescues or for adopters. He has stated people can only look at them through the kennel door.

I encourage you to call the pound and convey how you feel about this to Officer Russo. The phone number is 860-223-5021. We all know the dogs have NO chance of getting adopted this way. If you feel ambitious I encourage you to call the Police Chief as well, as Officer Russo says these are direct orders from his chief.

My heart is breaking for these dogs. I have been assisting Officer Russo with evaluating and getting these dogs into rescues for the past year.

Of course if you are interested in a dog, I am always happy and ready to transport, so let me know.

" I couldn't let Deeney be euthanized without at least seeing if there was anyone out there who would want to take her. She appears to be incontinent, she needs dental work done and she has lumps and bumps all over (don't all 15 year old dogs?) She will be euthanized Tuesday, May 22 early in the am, say between 8 and 9 am. Deeney is spunky and full of life. She runs around , barks, does all those doggie things. Fifteen-year-old Deeney was found as a stray. She has obviously given someone a lot of loyal companionship that was not returned to her in her elderly years. No one called to reclaim her and now she hopes that someone will find it in their heart to give her a new home for the few years ( possibly 2-5 yrs) She is a little lumpy and bumpy but her blood work was good and she can bark for your attention and demand walks like those youngster with four legs. She doesn't pull on the leash when walking, she has been housebroken for years and she won't chew your couch legs, she says you can't find anyone better than that come see her and fall in love with this little old lady. TRINITY: 5 Month Female

My name is TRINITY and I am just a plain 5 month old female mixed breed. My
sister and I are so plain that no one even wants us. That is why we are at
this shelter, and that is why we won't ever leave; because we are just too
plain for everyone. I am trying to be brave for my sister but it's awful
hard when you know you are going to die any day now.

LELAH: 1 Year Female

My name is Lelah and I am a 1 year old female shepherd/collie mix. My name
means means Beauty. I came to the shelter with my brother Tiller, who was
put down last week because no one wanted him. The only reason I was saved
was because I had been adopted. The family that adopted me had a small child
that was bouncing all over me, which I did not appreciate. Instead of
teaching their child how to behave with dogs, they returned me to the
shelter where I will die an almost certain death. Do you think I will see
my brother at the rainbow bridge? He is the only familiy I have ever known.
I am so alone.

MAGGIE +1 - 2 Year Female Bulldog mix

My name is MAGGIE and I am a 2 year old female Bulldog mix. I am also a
single mom. All mothers wish the best for their children. I wish that
someone would take Duke, but I wish they wouldn't leave me here to die. I
want to feel the sweet kisses of my little boy. I don't want to die alone,
unloved, and wondering what happened to my little boy DUKE. What if he is
tied to a 3 foot chain? Or returned to a shelter to suffer the same fate as
me once his cuteness is gone?

TAB: 5 Year Female Lab mix

My name is TAB, and I am a 5 year old female Lab mix. At 5 years old, and a
black dog, my chances are next to none that someone is going to step up for
me and get me out of this really overcrowded and small shelter in time. I
have resigned to the fact that I'm just too old for anyone to love, and I
will die in a few short days because of it. All my life I just wanted
somone to love. Just my luck, I won't get it.

CARTER: 3 Year Male

My name is CARTER and I am 3 years old. I have spent my life in a kennel or
on a chain, except when my old owner wanted me to hunt. I didn't get fed
much. It was suppose to help me run faster. Have you ever ran miles on an
empty stomach? Well, hunting season is over so here I am. Right now I'd
rather an empty stomach, and the hope of tomorrow, then here wondering when
they will come and I will die.

collar, I am sweet and just want a family to love. But, that sure didn't
stop me from getting dropped off here now did it? So why would it help me
get out? The other dogs are right. We are unwanted, easily discarded.

BUDDY: 5 Year Male Rottweiler

Hello, my name is BUDDY and I am a handsome 5 year old male rottweiler.
They say my chances are slim, as I am 5 years old, and not a puppy or little
dog. Not to mention I am a black dog. We older dogs get out last, if at
all. We try to be brave for the younger pups but we are scared too. The
food is decent here, and it's better then where I was. At least I got to
experience a cookie bone, even if it was on the cement shelter floor.
