Johnson City/Washington Co. Animal Shelter
525 Sells Ave
Johnson City, TN
Dear DogsInDanger Supporter,
Johnson City, TN is one of those shelters that tries and tries, even when the wind is always blowing against them. One night just a few weeks ago, someone anonymously left 20 scared dogs in the overnight holding pens. This, in a shelter that was already full, struggling to keep up. Dogs only get about 7 days.
Johnson City, TN was one of the first shelters to join DogsInDanger in 2007. Since then, they have uploaded 9,220 dogs. 70% of those dogs were saved! That is pretty remarkable considering that the shelter's overall save rate is only 40%.
They get emails from people all across the country interested in their dogs. Some want to adopt, others just want to know what they can do to help save a dog. They also get the occasional hate mail accusing them of being murderers, etc, but they just brush it off as ignorance. They know that DogsInDanger is helping them save more lives.
In an effort to adopt out as many dogs as possible, they have sent dogs all over the country. Nickles, a 5 month old beagle mix, was one of the first dogs to be adopted through DogsInDanger and flew to Denver, CO to start his new life. Cherrio was another dog whose adopters made a long drive to get her. This Tennessee shelter has adopted dogs to homes in Connecticut, Maine, New York and North Carolina.
