December 19, 2008 Volunteers- Gaston County Animal Control NC Needs You

This is from an email I sent to Reggie Horton telling him I had a photographer looking to help down there and his reply back to me…Reggie is looking for volunteers at the shelter.

Reggie Horton reply: “Gaston County Animal Control enthusiastically welcomes volunteers to help augment staff responsibilities. With animals being impounded on a 24-hour basis, the need for skilled photography is constant. A daily commitment from a professional photographer would be absolutely wonderful and very much appreciated.”

"These three babies came in togother from a hunter who had just got some new puppies so he brought his older hunting dogs here to make room for the new ones. And these three babies are the result of living a life in a cage and not ever knowing hardly any human contact. Bo is the youngest out of the three and he is starting to come around really quickly although he is still really shy and needs someone to take the time and work with him. Daisy is the one who will go first on anything she is pretty much the leader and the others just follow her. Daisy is missing her front teeth and a couple others she also has wart like bumps around her tail and shoulders. Luke is pretty much the shy guy although he to is comming around a whole lot!! these three babies need teeth work as it seems they was feed nothing but grass or a very bad diet because there teeth are just caked in green. Please these babies need somewhere to go, please dont let this be the last thing they no before they leave this world all they need is a little time and love."

Two beautiful St. Bernard's - one is blind in one eye. They should go to a rescue or forever home as INDOOR dogs. If you can help, please

These adorable girls were rescued, and now their rescuer is getting evicted and may wind up in a shelter. If you know anyone who might want to adopt a precious homeless Saint Bernard please forward the photos and my contact info. (910)623-4311

Given that Elvira is 6 years old and Emily (2-3 yrs) is blind in one eye from a trauma, they will be tough to place in NC to the kind of indoor, loving home we know they deserve. They are up to date on their vaccines, and were on heartworm preventive until recently, so we HOPE they are negative.

Can anyone help this gorgeous boy? He is a big, beautiful boy with great
manners! If you can help, please email Andrea at _andrea@lcshost.com_
(mailto:andrea@lcshost.com) (@lcshost.com). Transport help is available and this
shelter is great to work with.

Sage is in a kennel with his buddy Savannah... better yet if someone has
room for two ;)

This pet is up to date with routine shots.
This pet has been altered.

Dixie is sweet Lab that may not look like a pure breed but we have papers that say she is! She came in with Savannah and Sage and is dog friendly. We bring this gal into the office during the day and she is a real hoot to watch, she loves carrying items around like any Lab and has the gentle disposition know by anyone that has ever had a Lab. Loyalty, easy natured and a great family companion. Dixie is approx.1 1/2 to 2 years old and would love a huge yard to play ball in. She is just now adjusting to shelter life and needs a little extra TLC after being brought in to a "barking building" otherwise this gal is good as gold, sweet, and gets along with other dogs. She is very muscular and weighs about 48 pounds. Come toss a squeaky toy and watch her go!

December 14, 2008 I Am Posting These Guys Again. Dogs Get Depressed. It is so Disturbing to See A Dog Give Up Hope. Please Help Them.

Shelters can be depressing places. Often the animals are not fed enough, are exposed to cold floors, lots of barking dogs and crying cats. Can you imagine what it must be like especially for the sensitive ones or the ones that had good homes? In some shelters there is not enough help to adequately take care of the animals so they are not walked and the cages are sprayed down( for cleaning) with them in it. Even in the best of shelters, there are other reasons for dogs to get sad besides poor conditions and inadequate food. Lack of exercise and attention and unfortunately euthanasia. I believe some dogs can sense the seriousness of their situation. Please help your local shelters so animals can be cared for in the best way possible and please look at these scared dogs and help them. Many times all these dogs need to be happy is a loving owner.

December 11, 2008. Rescued Dogs Abandoned in Boarding Facilities Georgia . Can You Help One?

"This site was created to post some of the dogs rescued from Coweta Animal Control who have since been abandoned in boarding. Many of these dogs are very sweet, adoptable companions who are dying to get out of the boarding facility they've lived in for several months. Some are active and need to run, others are shy and need some one on one attention, but all of them would benefit from a real home rather than living in boarding 24-7.

We are trying to raise money for these dogs' medical bills, boarding, and transport costs so they may get out of boarding.

December 8, 2008/ Please Help this Rescue Help Skelator- Link to Fundable Page

"Okay, so I hate the idea of coming here like a beggar, as I'm a firm believer in rescues being self-sustaining and not constantly groveling for hand-outs . . . and the truth of it is we're not about to go under due to financial issues or anything . . . but because we've been hit super hard with a number of unforeseen major medical bills, we're at that point where it's make a plea for help or shut down intake indefinitely until our checkbook has a chance to heal, and that means turning away a LOT of needy critters. We'll do it, obviously, if we have to, though I hate the idea. So here I am begging strangers on the internet Smile, sadly enough.

In addition to the usual heartworm treatments, dentals, etc. we recently did a leg amputation to cure a 7 year-old golden with hemangiosarcoma (he is cancer-free now and has been adopted) . . . yesterday we took in a little bichon mix from animal control that was so filthy, wet, and severely matted I didn't actually notice the dehydration, anemia, and pettechiae until after she was shaved . . . looks like she probably has IMHA, which has a very poor prognosis, of course, and is expensive as heck to treat too . . . sigh. I don't know if that poor girl is going to make it, but I can't say I regret pulling her off the wet cement floor where she was laying all urine-soaked and miserable, regardless of the outcome today.

Anyway, we've also got this plucky, little Persian, Skelator, who we've set up a fundable for, as he's come a very long way towards rehabilitation but now looks to probably need a trip to the animal eye specialist to fix his scarred-up, infected eye (treatment from the regular vet just hasn't been cutting it . . . ) I know everybody on this board gets bajillions of requests for help every day, and I really wouldn't be here posting this if I hadn't run out of alternatives. So I'm hoping maybe just one person will be able and willing to make a contribution. Pretty please Smile. If you have any questions about our rescue, please just ask. Yes, we are 501c3; yes, we are all-volunteer and only a handful of people; yes, we spay/neuter everything before it walks out the door, etc.

Rusty the golden, pre-amputation

Poor, little IMHA dog . . . if you are the praying type, please pray for her . . .

Skelator upon arrival . . . he weighed four pounds (has since DOUBLED that! Go Skelator, go!)

Skelator's first bath. Did I mention that the fleas made him just a little anemic? The scary thing is that this was the second rinse.

The link to Skelator's fundable page:

http://www.fundable.com/groupactions/groupaction.2008-11-17.6687373245

Okay, Anyway, if anyone is able to help or has some ideas on funding, we would really appreciate it. Thanks . . .

Post subject: Pilot in Jacksonville, FL, flying to New York this Tuesday

Hi everyone,

If you have a dog that needs to get from Jacksonville, FL, to the northeast, please post your need here asap. We have a pilot leaving noon Tuesday from Jacksonville, FL. It will be a non-stop flight to Long Island. The dog(s) will need to be in a crate just his/her size (no bigger than necessary) and have a health certificate. If the dog(s) travels to New York with this pilot, ARF will foster the dog(s) and will be able to get the dog(s) pretty much anywhere in the Northeast from Maine to D.C. on the next good weather day/weekend.

Thank you,

Julia

December 6, 2008 A Holiday Miracle for Cats and Kitties at Humane Society KY Still Need Vetting Sponsors to Make Miracle Complete

Click link to see the cats and kittens in need of vetting money.

http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY103.html

Give a Gift of Life This Holiday Season
*** Sponsor a shelter pet and we'll send a holiday card and photo to the recipient of your choice ***

For many months now, our shelter has literally been bursting at the seams with an overabundance of seemingly unwanted - but super-wonderful - cats and kittens. In what might best be described as a true holiday miracle, we have a rescue group that has agreed to take 60 (YES - 60!) of these amazing furr-purrs (the actual rescue of which has been spread out over the course of the last several weeks). We were also blessed to have the vetting for almost 40 cats/kittens in this lucky group to be donated by our local veterinarians' office.

We now have one final batch of 20 cats/kittens (see their photos below) to prepare for their journey to a guaranteed second chance at a wonderful life. The problem is, the funds to get them vetted and on the road to safety have pretty much run out. Donations are desperately needed by December 12th to make their transport to safety possible.

This is a perfect chance for fellow cat-lovers to make a donation to a shelter cat or kitten of their choice and to KNOW that it truly will be getting a new lease on life very, very soon.

For any size donation - whether it's made as a gift to yourself, or to a family member, co-worker, pet-sitter, you name it - we'll happily send a holiday gift card to the recipient of your choice that will thank them for the life that they've saved. What better way to recognize someone's love of cats than by helping to save one in their name?

The cats and kittens shown below are the candidates to go on this final trip (as long as their health remains in good condition). Several others that are going have already been fully sponsored. Feel free to pick one of them as the cat you'd like your sponsorship to be applied to and we'll enclose a photo of them in the card we send to the recipient of your choice. You can read more about each of these dear cats by clicking on the link at the top of this page that says "Click Here To Only See Our Cats."

And just so you know - a full sponsorship for vetting and transport is $75 per cat/kitten, but sponsorships in ANY amount are greatly appreciated! This life-saving offer isn't limited though to the cats shown below or even to just cats. You can pick ANY of the animals listed on our website to sponsor and we'll gladly send a holiday card and photo to the gift-recipient of your choice. Full sponsorships for adult dogs are $85 each and puppies are $100 each, but once again, ANY amount is appreciated.

If you'd like to make a life-saving donation to any of our deserving dogs or cats, you can do so by either using the Paypal "Donate" button found at the top on this page or you can mail a check or money order directly to the shelter at:

Grayson County Humane Society/SPCA
213 William Thomason Byway
Leitchfield, KY 42754

Please also let us know the name and address of the person you'd like a holiday gift card sent to. If need be, you can do so by emailing the information to the shelter volunteers at dwhite@aggressiveonline.net.

Please consider giving this unique, life-saving gift to a loved one in your life.

Thank you so very much.
Happy holidays to one and all!!!

Sorry the text is so large. I couldn't alter it.

WOOD TV in Grand Rapids Michigan is investigating cruelty
allegations
against the Montcalm County Michigan Animal Control
Shelter. It appears
that allegations of animal cruelty led to the resignation
of Animal Control
Director Kevin Weaver. It will be up to county
commissioners to decide
who the new director will be.

Montcalm County has long been known as one of
the worst animal control programs in the
state of Michigan. Virtually no attempt is
made to place dogs and cats in new homes.
Rescue groups are never contacted to save animals
and probably the worst, all unclaimed animals
are literally given to a USDA Class B Research Dealer,
R & R Research

, owned and operated by Howard City's James Woudenberg.
In exchange
for taking all of these animals for free, Woudenberg “euthanizes”
them for free for the shelter. Never mind that an undercover
investigation by WOOD TV in the 1990's
showed video of Woudenberg gassing animals in a rusty
55 gallon drum.

I had to post this for Calvin and all the other wonderful
pets that need out of this horrible place. If you want more info
