It really is the truth. When you go to the shelter and you interact and see the personalities and how excited the animals get just to get out of their kennel, it is heartbreaking. Spending time with them even for a minute makes them so happy. We lost 3 dogs yesterday because the shelter is completely FULL. Our emergency posts are an actual EMERGENCY. These animals NEED YOU because without you, the truth is they will be euthanized for space. It's the awful truth. Please sponsor a dog (dogs are $80 and cats are $50), adopt, rescue or apply within a 501c3 rescue group in your area and foster. We have so so many homeless and unwanted animals that we need urgent, urgent help. Please don't just ignore this post. HELP!

If anyone wants to pledge towards boarding (usually $119 a week) we can save someone tomorrow. There will be another list and more will die with no plan. Boarding is not ideal, but it keeps them alive until a foster is found."

The primary goal of Canine Crusaders is rescuing dogs out of the Mahoning County Pound, Ohio. Foster homes can be as much as 180 miles away. They are located directly between Cleveland, OH and Pittsburgh, PA. "We are in DESPERATE need of SHORT-TERM FOSTERS for dogs awaiting transport to rescues. Foster time for dogs going to rescue is generally only 1 to 3 weeks. Foster time for dogs waiting to find their forever home may take a little longer. Foster homes provide temporary shelter, food and love." Canine Crusaders provides necessary vetting. The cost of food and toys is up to the foster. Prerequisites such as fenced yard, experience, etc., may depend on the type of dog to be fostered. | |
Sam was a friendly 6 month old puppy. Reason for euthanasia: Behavior, not aggressive behavior that you and I might think would make a dog unadoptable, but rather because 6-month-old puppy Sam was getting "depressed" in the shelter environment. Sasha was surrendered to the shelter as a healthy 1.5 year old when her owners moved to an apartment that did not allow dogs. Like many dogs, within days of arriving at the shelter Sasha developed a runny nose and cough, common signs of an upper respiratory infection that makes so many shelter dogs sick. Reason for Sasha's death: Medical.
