From Posting

UPDATE JULY 12, 2009

"Hello All,

Intakes are through the roof. What people are not admitting to giving up on are coming in as strays at ALARMING numbers.

Please look at the URGENT list at the shelter. These babies are the ones that have been here the longest. We will have to euthanize because of space if these pups are not rescued or adopted. Please help me say goodbye to them with a smile instead of a tear. "

Max

Max is yet another beagle left at the shelter. He is a full grown young beagle who shares a kennel with Champ. These two beagles get along great and can go together as " a pair". He is an awesome beagle who is in a FULL shelter!
Thanks to the No-Kill Mission, Max has been fully vetted - neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for heartworms....now he just needs a forever home!!

(Max’s friend, Champ)

Champ is truly a champ. He is a middle aged beagle in a shelter with so many other beagles but he is happy and very positive that he is the best beagle here! He is healthy aka "plump". He gets along with his kennel mate Max and hasn't met a stranger yet.
Thanks to the No-Kill Mission, Champ has been neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for heartworms.

Niki

Thanks to the No-Kill Mission, Niki is fully vetted and heartworm tested negative!

Lucky and Gordon

Thanks to the No-Kill Mission, Niki is fully vetted and heartworm tested negative!

Lonnie

Buckshot

Alfred aka Buckshot has had a rough life...when he was taken for vetting, it was discovered that he had buckshot in the worst possible place for a male dog. Alfred was neutered, vaccinated and heartworm tested negative thanks to the No-Kill Mission

Mica and Penny

Both ready to go thanks to the No-Kill Mission

Gretta

She’s ready to go too.

So many more sweet faces hoping for new homes.

We have sucessfully moved 20+ cats and kittens this week. The need is still great as we still have over 100 left to save.
Please keep cross posting. The more pulled the less that will have to loose the fight.

July 9, 2009

Hello All,
O.K. this is it. We have been out of space
for a while on cats. We have tried to stuff them
everywhere we can and we have run out of space.
I had a call for the "Powers that be" in the county
and they want to know what the plan is
for the overpopulation at the shelter.
We have had to turn citizens of our county away
and as a county shelter, we really can not do that.
This is my last plea for cats
that are at the shelter right now.
I can not give them much time. I can give until Monday 7/13/09 to have
a firm commitment of rescue or adoption
for these babies.
Here is the list:

I dont know if it is too late or not but I just received a e-mail telling me this information. Joe Same Queen is not supporting the puppy mill bill because he made a promise to hunters saying he would not because they do not want to be inspected. Urgent action is needed for people to contact and get this bill supported. In my county alone they are two puppy mills that have over a hundred dogs. Please help in anyway you can.

July 8, 2009 Grayson County Humane Society has over 100 cats and kittens at shelter KY

Posted: Fri Jun 26, 2009 9:34 pm
Post subject: URGENT Leitchfield, KY - cats need rescue ASAP

Grayson County Humane Society has been hit especially hard by
kitten season this year, and now have over 100 cats and kittens at
their shelter.
The space was never designed to hold so many, and there
are cages everywhere - in the office, in the hall, in the bathroom.
Grayson is an open admission shelter for the city of Leitchfield, KY,
and is obligated to take in all who are turned in there from the city,
so space must be made. In the last 2 days there have been
20 new cats and kittens turned in to the shelter.
They can't go on this way, and euthanasia is imminent.

There are absolutely beautiful cats and kittens here,
of every color, size, age
, eye color and description. Many cats are sponsored,
and sponsorship is available.
Transport is routinely done to NY and New England,
there is local transport help in
IL, and the volunteers will make every effort to
accommodate any transport
requests. To the shelter volunteers, these cats
are more than their charges,
they are their friends. Please - if you can rescue
or adopt just one cat or kitten,
perhaps one more will live another day
at Grayson. Thank you for ANY help
that you can provide.

Tons of cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies!

Euth July 10

AC ordered humane society to downsize drastically!

Please check out the long list of photos on the link below:

-------- Original Message --------
Subject: Please help! Only 3 of 140+ rescued so far!
From: Jane Keeler

Hi! My name is Jane and I work at the Okefenokee Humane Society
in Waycross, GA.
We are required to downsize by HALF
in order to accomodate government run animal control,
which will be beginning in mid-July.
We've been given an extension
on our deadline due to the July 4th holiday weekend, so we'll have
these guys for one more week. I've sent pleas to hundreds of rescues
, but only 3 dogs and no cats have been saved. Plus, more animals
have come in since the initial pleas went out.
Please check our UPDATED link:

http://www.okefenokeehumanesociety.org/help.html

The link has photos and videos of the new animals that
have arrived,
as well as all the original animals, which we still have.
Due to the urgency
of our situation, we are not charging a rescue pull fee. If your rescue
requires any additional services, these are the actual costs we pay,
for which we would need reimbursement:

Heartworm check $30.00
health certificate $30.00
rabies vaccine $8.00
spay or neuter $70.00 (dogs) $40.00 (cats)

Please contact me at jane.keeler@yahoo.com for more information!!
These babies only have until July 10!!

~Jane

Newnan-Coweta Humane Society & Shelter Rescue (NCHS-SR)

"1) Coweta County Animal Control facility and the 2) Newnan-Coweta Humane Society and Shelter Rescue are completely separate. The names are similar, and may be part of the confusion. The Coweta County Animal Control facility is a dog pound like Spalding Animal Control. The Newnan-Coweta Humane Society and Shelter Rescue (NCHS-SR) is a volunteer organization that goes to the Coweta County pound every few days (as well as a few other county pounds when possible) and takes pictures of the hopeful animals to post on the volunteer organization's websites at www.shelterrescue.org and www.shelterrescue.petfinder.com . The email address given on those sites does not go to and is not a part of the Coweta Animal Control facility; NCHS-SR volunteers man those sites and try their best to respond to the 50/100/more emails daily. The people at the Coweta County Animal Control facility are county employees and are the contact people for that facility at 770-254-3735. NCHS-SR's primary volunteer efforts are to let the public know about the animals in need to give them a last-chance. We post the pictures and bios of the animals on both websites, do a weekly television show to try to promote adoptions, and put a once/week ad in the local newspaper to try to promote adoptions/interest. NCHS-SR also has a VERY small foster home and local adoption program. When possible NCHS-SR may be able to pull a very limited number of animals for its adoption program. Sponsorhips are only available on a few through NCHS-SR and potential sponsors are asked not to send funds in advance until NCHS-SR can commit resources; all coordination must be done in advance. Our volunteers put in many hours every day and we do the best that we can. We sincerely appreciate the hard work that everyone on the forum gives to help rescue those animals, and we can appreciate first-hand the frustration that goes into rescuing those animals. Our volunteers go to several different county pounds to take pictures and experience the differences in cooperation from one county pound to the next. But going to that facility on a regular basis and seeing those hopeful faces in person keeps us motivated, regardless. Hopes this info clears up some of the confusion."

7/1 Cheddar Has a Great Pursonality- Ky Shelter Overflowing. Needs Adopters, Sponsors and Foster Homes

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13512690
Cheddar
Did you know that even if you can't adopt Cheddar, you can still help him get a home of his own? And all it takes is a tax-deductible donation of $10-$20! If you don't have room in your home, but do have room in your heart, you could sponsor this animal. This means you pay part of the adoption fee, making it possible for them to be adopted much sooner. For more information on sponsoring, please click HERE
