12/5/17 Northeast Animal Shelter Salem Mass 'We're reaching out to you because we recently rescued 32 cats and kittens from a hoarding situation — and we desperately need your help to care for them during the busy holiday season."
'' 'We're reaching out to you because we recently rescued 32 cats and kittens from a hoarding situation — and we desperately need your help to care for them during the busy holiday season.
This was an incredibly sad situation… The owner felt she truly loved these cats and was giving them her best. She didn't realize how traumatic and stressful it was for the cats to live like this. Fortunately, our Shelter is now giving these cats the emergency medical care and rehabilitation they need.' ''

''HEART is a program of Pawmetto Lifeline, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit animal rescue organization in Columbia, South Carolina. Pawmetto Lifeline is dedicated to turning the Midlands of South Carolina into a no-kill community for homeless pets. Each year, in our community more than 17,000 homeless pets enter just two municipal shelters and each year more than 11,700 of those same pets are euthanized due to lack of space and resources. Due to the large number of homeless pets entering local shelters, stray pets can be euthanized after a five day holding period which equates to an 68% euthanasia rate for the Midlands. Pawmetto Lifeline believes that every life is precious and it is our goal to give shelter pets a new leash on life by partnering with our local municipal shelters to help solve the over-population issue in our community.'' read rest at website

Some things you should know when working with us:
To become a Placement Partner with HEART you must complete the Placement Partner Application and agree to the Placement Partner Guidelines. Please contact info@heartofthemidlands.org to complete the process. Animals on this list are only available to 501(c)(3) Placement Partners with the HEART Program.
Not all animals listed on this email are available TODAY! Please note the "FINAL DAY AVAILABLE" indicating when their time is up. Following your confirmation of each animal you will be notified when they are available to be picked up. You will have 24 hours from time of confirmation to pick up the animals at the shelters.
Please reply to this email address to confirm animals you wish to pull. When you reply to confirm animals, please include your email address, what rescue you work with and a contact phone number along with the animal ID#.
Dogs are not heartworm tested until a rescue confirms them (unless otherwise noted). If you CANNOT take a HW+ animal, please mention it when you confirm.. If heartworm status is not acceptable once it is determined you may decline to take the dog.
We CANNOT guarantee the health or behavior of an animal. The animals have not been examined by a veterinarian unless otherwise noted.
Please note following a commitment to a specific animal that animal must be picked up at the designated shelter within 24 hours."
Please note following a commitment to a specific animal that animal must be picked up at the designated shelter within 24 hours.
Pull fees MUST be paid to HEART at the time of confirming the animal, and at the absolute latest, when the animal is picked up from their shelter. We do not have the capability to invoice- sorry!

10/21/17 Northeast Animal Shelter " Saving Homeless Pets Across America'' Needs Your Help to Care For 102 Hurricane Survivors '' Irma, Harvey, and Jose are Adorable Kittens Whose Mother Did Not Survive. They are Among the Cats and Dogs That Need Our Help. See Photos of The Kittens and Other Homeless Animals Looking for Love.
''When Hurricanes Irma, Harvey, and Jose came ashore last month, large parts of the South were flooded and without power for days. Our pet rescue partners in the impacted areas had their work cut out for them for sure.
102 rescued pets recently arrived at our Shelter – and we urgently need your help to care for them.
Three abandoned kittens are among them. Rescuers also tried to save their mother, but without food and water for days, she had given everything she had to nurse her offspring, and she did not survive.
The tiny kittens, just three weeks old at the time, were all healthy. Our rescue partner bottle fed them and aptly named them Irma, Harvey, and Jose. They are among the 102 homeless pets who just arrived within the past few days."

9/29/17 Southern Texas Shelter Has No Choice But To Kill These Dogs, 2 Month mixed Lab Puppy, Owner Surrenderd White Boxer, Brindle beauty, Winona, Pit Bull If No Rescue, or Adopter Steps Up. Municipal Shelter's Owner Surrender Policies and Other Policies Are Horrible. That is Because By Law These Shelters Are Dumping Grounds Where Irresponsible Owners Bring Their Pets And It Seems These People Do Not Care If Their Pet Is Killed. Help Change These Horrific Rules. Get Involved. Call Your State Senators and Reps. Killing Innocent Animals Because Government Cannot Find A Way To Constructively Reduce Pet Homelessness Is Sad. Animals Suffer Due to Human Ineptness and Apathy. Owner Surrenders Can Be Killed When They Walk in the Door. Volunteers and Staff Members at Many of These Shelters Do All They Can To Save Lives.. People Just Keep Dumping Animals.

Lucas ran up to the dog catcher. Poor boy. He is in the Kill Room. Imagine working at a shelter where there is a room full of animals the staff has to kill. Is this the best people can do for a homeless animal who greeted the dog catcher?
I hope Lucas does not pay for others' irresponsibility.
He ran up to the dog catcher! Please get him out of there.

"Due
to Hurricane Harvey, hundreds of pets have been displaced throughout
our County. Please share this post, so we can help lost pets in our care
be reunited with their owners.
Through tomorrow a 30-day hold will be placed on stray animals that come into Harris County Animal Shelter to allow ample time for pets to be reunited with their owners.
Harris County Animal Shelter is working in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, Houston Pets Alive and Houston Pet Set to reunite lost pets with their families. Animals brought to Harris County Animal Shelter will either be kept at the 612 Canino Rd. location as space permits, or they will be transported to the NRG arena Pet Reunion Pavilion to await their reunion with their owner. If you or someone you know has lost a pet it is best to first check with shelters and rescues in your local municipality. We also recommend checking petharbor.com and bestfriends.org/hurricaneharvey for a listing of found pets throughout the jurisdiction. Please share and help us reunite pets with their people!"

First people are forced to leave their pets and then in many cases the system looses pets.
Didn't anyone learn from the errors of separating people from their pets after Katrina?

Other Kill shelters in Texas continue to say they will euthanize dogs in their care unless fosters or adopters show up. Will they really do this after a hurricane of the magnitude of Harvey? Do they ever think they are killing someone's pet?
I sense there could be a huge lawsuit by owners if their pets were adopted or euthanized before the 30 day legal requirement.

8/20/17 Many ADOPTABLE Dogs Scheduled To Die Nueces TX and Other South Texas Shelters. There are People Willing to Foster and Adopt Outside of Texas But For Some Reason The Shelters Feel It is Easier to Kill the Dogs and Cats Then Extend the Animals Time ( Is It the State Rules?) Make Arrangements to Transport Them. So the Logistics or the State Shelter Laws Are More Important Than the Lives of The Animals. We are Talking About Lives Here. Not Old furniture. This Is What IS Wrong With the World. Respect For ALL LIVES Needs to Resurge and Individual Responsibility! All Lives Matter. Please Help These Dogs. Shelters That Refuse to Allow Adoptions or Fosters Out of State When There Are People Interested Say They Care About the Animals. Do They? Or is It Easier to Take a Dog or Cat to The Euth Room and Put Them in a Barrel or Body Bag After They Are Killed. We Can Change This. New Ideas Are Needed and New Laws. Border Collie Mix Full of Life and Other Mixed Dogs are in the EU Room Waiting to Die. Their Hopeful Eyes and Loving Hearts and Wagging Tales Will Be Gone Forever. We Need More Love in This World Not Kill Shelters. Believe in the Possibilities Of People Uniting In Compassion and Love. This is the Only Way We Can Heal the World and Our Hearts. What is the Alternative? Do One Act of Loving Kindness Today. Help These Dogs in the EUTH Room
See the success stories and most important see the dogs who are in the euth room ready to die becaue of the rules people make. They don't have to die. People are choosing to kill them because this is the way it has been done in many municipal shelters for years. This is an outdated way to manage the problem which starts with PEOPLE.
Would you want to have to kill this healthy happy dog? Hate to be this blunt but someone at the shelter will have to do this if no one steps up. Can you imagine what the shelter workers go through? Please save all these dogs. Contact shelter immediately.

Please help these dogs and cats. Pledging attracts rescues. Fostering, Adopting or Just Sharing the info on the animals also helps.
