June 27, 2009 EUTH ALERT- MATTIE- OWNER SURRENDERED Adoption Fell Through Durbin WV

DON'T LET THIS OWNER SURRENDERED SWEETIE DIE
"6/26/09~Mattie's adoption fell through because we have never heard back from the girl. We are in desperate need to get her moved to rescue or a forever home. She is first for the euth list as she has been here for a while. PLEASE help her!
5/2/09~Mattie is a very sweet girl that had a blast trying to play with my little disabled girl today. She was most happy to give and get attention. We have had several of her brothers in several months ago and we now have her in. She does well with everyone except at feeding time, which is quite managable. Mattie loves attention and has gorgeous blue eyes. Please help Miss Mattie find a home or rescue!
Mattie is a beautiful boxer/husky mix with blue eyes. She is a really sweet girl about 14 months old. She is an owner surrender because the family is moving and are unable to take her with them. She is very friendly, gets along with other dogs (except at feed time) but will chase cats. SHE LOVES CHILDREN! Please help save a life and adopt or rescue Mattie! With food aggression she must be moved asap out of the kennels." Contact Info

June 26, 2009 Big Beautiful Cat Left in Carrier Behind Shelter. Shelter Has 120 Cats. This Guy is in Danger of Loosing His Life. He is FIV +

Urgent

From: jcshelbycounty@yahoo.com
Subject: Shelbyville, KY: 120 cats and kittens-at least half will have to die if not rescued

Hello All,
I know it is kitten season and it is in full swing. We have 120 cats and kittens at the shelter. Many are fully vetted. Many are too small or too young yet to be altered.
Please look at these pictures. We have so many wonderful adults that I just can not make myself even entertain the thought of putting them down. If the decision has to be made, at this point it will be, then unaltered adults and all kittens will have to go first.

Please help us give these babies a chance to grow and know love. I have promoted these kittens in the local papers on the web and they are still here with more coming in every day. If you can help, a litter or even just one, please contact the shelter at

Fax: 502-647-9214

Also look at the rest of the great adult cats. They should not have to loose their lives to make room for the ones coming in. Don't let them die. They have suffered enough and need to know your love and life without fear.

June 25, 2009 Jimmy Once Had A Home. He Was Poisoned. Has w/spinal injury. Needs immediate barn home! KY

********** Please cross-post far and wide **********
Poisoned cat w/spinal injury needs immediate barn home!

I know that every day we are all trying to find homes for unowned animals, but I had to send this email b/c of "Jimmy's" story, and b/c he's only looking for a barn home -- maybe it will be easier to find a solution. ... I also realize that many of you receiving this email don't have barns, but please forward this email to anyone you know who might be willing to give this cat a home. ...

**********************

Please meet Jimmy, a friendly stray male that had been accepted into a feral colony in Shelbyville, Kentucky. He loves to head-butt people and purr when petted. He's also a talker. He was obviously part of a family at one time. This very friendly stray has had a difficult life (lost his family, a spinal injury and poisoning), and it just seems to be getting more difficult. ... He desperately needs a barn home.

(Jimmy doesn't like camera flashes!)

... Jimmy's been on a waiting list for our TNRM (trap-neuter-return-management) program for at least three months. The first time we saw him, he seemed to be in pretty good condition. ... On Wed., June 17, we finally trapped him -- the last male cat in this particular colony that needed to be neutered. While working to trap him, we noticed that his tail appeared to be broken (about 2 inches from his body), and he seemed to be skinnier than he had been three months earlier.

On Thurs., June 18, after surgery, the vet discovered that his blood wasn't clotting. They had to knock him out 2 more times in attempts to cauterize the incision and make various other efforts to save him. Nothing was working, and the vet was concerned he might bleed to death.

So the vet called us to ask how we wanted to proceed. After teary-eyed phone calls to the other board members, we decided to begin with the least expensive fix -- a vitamin K injection (this probably sounds awful, but we've only been incorporated since Jan. 30, and our bank account is low. If that had failed, the next step would have been a $300-$400 blood transfusion that would have been paid for out of pocket.) Fortunately, the injection worked. Unfortunately, it very likely meant that Jimmy had been poisoned -- whether intentionally or unintentionally remains to be determined.

Needless to say, we're all very happy that he survived, but sadly, we cannot return him to his colony -- his "HOME" -- where he would likely come into contact w/poison again. (As an aside, we're also working to resolve the poisoning issue. Thankfully, the other cats in this colony do not appear to wander into the same area -- behind a specific restaurant -- where Jimmy likely got into the poison.)

To add to this story, during his rehab, we've discovered that Jimmy's broken tail is more likely nerve damage from a spinal injury. This nerve damage has also left him incontinent when it comes to urinating (he uses the litterbox just fine for his bowel movements). ... He's going back for a recheck on Tues., June 30, and if nothing has changed, he'll be given the green light to go to a new barn home. ... Therefore, while Jimmy waits for his vet appointment, we really need to find a home for him so he can move immediately. Right now, he's sitting in a very large crate w/a plastic tray in the bottom. When he involuntarily pees, he winds up laying in it (and even though we clean it out 3 times a day, we're not always around to immediately clean the area). Urine can cause burns on a cat if the cat is exposed to it long enough. ... Apparently this wasn't a problem outside at his former colony home.

If you have a big heart and a good barn home for a sweet cat that's had a tough life, please contact either Stacie (502-633-1199) or Sandy (502-220-0271). Jimmy's eager to meet you!

June 24, 2009- Bullies Out The Ears -KY Shelter

A crosspost

Hello all,

I know that Bullies are so hard to place. We have tried hard to find homes for the ones that have come to the shelter. They are all spayed/neutered, vaccinated and wormed. We try to sreen applicants as best as we can. We are not moving these sweet babies at all.

We are getting pressure from the "powers". It has been questioned why we still have this pit or that pit. I always try to come back with, that is not a pit it's an AmStaff or a Staffie. It is not working any longer. We must move these dogs ASAP to avoid having to put them down. Please look at the list and contact the shelter or me if you can help.

June 21, 2009 Bonded Dogs Lived in Shelter Together for 10 Years FL

Can you imagine bringing this pair into your home? They would be so grateful and you could watch them experience things they never have had before. What an amazing thing it would be to give these dogs a loving home. These guys need you!

Posted on Petfinder by a concerned person.

"Here is a pair of seniors who have been together in a shelter for 10+ years. Who would love nothing more than a family. They are located in Miami, FL but like someone else posted, people will come together to get transportation arranged.

Kurt and Millie are the GOLDEN COUPLE. Their pictures speak for themselves, reflecting their sweet and loving personalities. What they don't tell you is that they have spent the past 10+ years as shelter dogs. Together they have lived outside in their pen at the animal shelter, keeping each other company year after year, brutal summer after brutal summer.

Millie is 13 and Kurt her junior, at 12. They are both around 35 lbs and these healthy seniors are still waiting for those forever homes that they have been rejected for over and over again. These old eyes have seen all the young ones come and go.

They have weathered Hurricane Katrina and Wilma, recovered from mange and seen their friends pass over the Rainbow Bridge. But they haven't thrown in the towel yet.

They are still waiting for that one home where they can feel love and be cherished for their remaining years on this earth. Don't they deserve it?

If you want to be the lucky one to spend these last years with these precious little loves, just call Kathy at 305-401-4693 or email klcremer@aol.com. They don't need much.

Two soft beds, 2 square meals, a couple of squeaky toys........and plenty of love, is all it will take to win a place in their hearts."

June 20, 2009- Baldwin Loves Everyone. Urgent OH

"More About Baldwin (urgent)Baldwin is a sweet boy. He loves attention! He does well with other dogs and is good on a leash. He seems to love everyone. He is around 1 yr. old. He was a bit underweight when he arrived however we are attempting to put pounds on him. He is a Bluetick hound mix with a very sweet face.
We thought he was adopted however the person decided on a young puppy instead.

Baldwin (urgent) is up-to-date with routine shots."

June 19, 2009 CRISIS - Shelby County Animal Shelter KY

Subject: Shelbyville, KY:Shelby County has 85 dogs and over 100 cats...BEYOND URGENT! PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello All,
Someone e-mailed me asked if the information in the plea below was a hoax. I assure you that this is a very true crisis we have on our hands. Out of the 85 dogs here, only 13 are confirmed to go to rescue. We only have 30 kennel runs so we are using every cage and crate available to us. We also have, at last count, 103 cats and kittens. Try fitting that number into 45 cats cages.
Overcrowding is not something we can do long. We will not endanger the health of the animals to save their lives. At the same time, we do not want to kill them either. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! Please, I am begging harder then I have ever begged before. I will gladly get on my knees for anyone who wants to see the desperation we are facing.
If you can help, please go to http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY139.html and choose one, two or three animals you can help. If you can not pull, cross post this e-mail like mad.
Next week at this time, I would love to have only half the animals we have now, but I do not want to have a full freezer. Please help!!!

Dear friends of rescue,

I am sitting in front of my computer in absolute shock. I just called the Shelbyville shelter and found out that they have 85 dogs and over 100 cats at the shelter. I am certain that this crisis is not over, as I’m just as certain that a lot of these animals are not from Shelby County . There was a story on the news about how the shelter has been no kill for over a year and suddenly they have exploded with animals. James cannot hold out much longer. There are only 30 kennels at the shelter, so you know how over crowded they are. I do NOT want to see the streak end!! I am on my knees here! I know most shelters are full (mostly thanks to our lovely economy), but, please consider pulling from James. For $58 you can get the animals spayed/neutered, shots, health certificate, and I believe a HW test (if not included, I know it’s not expensive).

I am, as always, willing to set up transport for any rescue willing to pull animals.

I know that some of you are not rescues or are breed specific, but, please, please, please consider cross posting and forwarding.

LIBERTY COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL – HINESVILLE, GEORGIA

If you would like to adopt one of the animals below, please contact

Petra at scanimalrescue@gmail.com

I have personally interacted with each one of these dogs. My descriptions are straight forward! My conscience would not allow me to hold anything back, and I would never give false information to save an animal, because it would only result in it being returned. You will never find vicious/dangerous animals on my listings! Usually, little or none is known about these dogs' medical history. We do know that a majority of them were abandoned by military, which means they are most likely up-to-date on their shots, heartworm negative, and generally healthy; however, we cannot guarantee that, which is why each dog must receive prompt veterinary care after adoption/rescue takes place.

Spaying or neutering by 6 months of age is a MUST!!! Unless the dogs go to a rescue or out of state adopters must purchase a spay/neuter voucher from us. You can get more detailed information and pricing by visiting SNAC (Spay/Neuter Alliance Clinic) at info@snac1.com or by calling 843-645-2500.

Your help with adopting, rescuing, or fostering these dogs is immensely appreciated, as is your help with cross posting to others who may be able to help save a life.

MORE PICS OF ALL DOGS ARE AVAILABLE!

Elmo, the Basset Hound mix (2 years old):

You have seen Elmo here before! Elmo was adopted out and made his way back to the facility. His “new dad” told me they had left for a day trip and came back to find the gate open and Elmo gone. They must have left the gate open for Elmo to escape because they have not come back to get him and I’m not letting him go back because obviously they don’t care for him and are therefore not fit to have him in their lives. Elmo looks much better however; his hair has come in on his ears and he is still just as happy as ever. I can’t understand how people can adopt an animal that has been thrown away just to throw it away again. That is unbelievable and unforgiveable in my book. Elmo needs a REAL home now, a forever home!!!

******************************************************************

Fey, the Border Collie mix (7 months old):

This little girl is no doubt one of the cutest puppies I have ever seen! She has humongous paws and will be a very large dog when fully grown and her coat is amazingly soft with much loose skin to grow into. Her face is adorable and so is her demeanor. When I first took her out of the kennel she shares with 3 other young pups she was frightened but it was easy to see that her curiosity was fighting the fear. LOL Once I had her in the field with another dog she pounced and it looked sooo cute. Wished I would have had my film camera that day to show it to everyone. This one is definitely a winner!

******************************************************************

Kammie, the Plott Hound mix (6 months old):

Kammie is just a baby and behaves like such. She has tons of energy and constantly wants to give kisses. If another dog is in the field you cannot keep Kammie still, as she has to see what the other dog is up to and has to give kisses to the other dog, too. She is a cuddle bug and would make a great bed companion for someone who is looking for a warm fur baby to cuddle up with at night. Besides that, Kammie sports the gorgeous tiger coat that is so sought after by Plott Hound and Bully breed lovers. Kammie’s eyes are like warm Amber and will give you that pleading look to melt your heart.

******************************************************************

Honey Bun, the Hound mix (1 year old) (Need SPONSORSHIP for his vetting, please!!!):

Please help me help this dog. I named him Honey Bun because quite frankly he is my honey bun and I love him so very much. If this dog has to be euthanized it will break part of my spirit because every time I spend time with him he touches my heart. He has had a hard life this much I know and I’m sitting here with tears rolling down my cheeks just thinking of him. Poor Honey Bun came in with mange. I bought him an expensive mange mite/flea/tick dip and dipped him in it and we have had him on regular Ivermectin but it will take some time for Honey Bun’s skin to calm down and for the pink color and bumpiness to subside. I realize that people look for the perfect dog and that skin issues scare people away but here you have a dog that is so very thankful for every little love given that he should already be in a home with a loving family. He came in last week and I couldn’t post him yet because of the skin condition but now we are filling up again and frankly I’m scared for him because I know he will be one of the first to go down. Please look at the pictures of him and his sweet little spotted nose. Honey Bun is good with other dogs but is forced to live in isolation right now because of his skin and is also not allowed in the field due to this. He is forced to live in isolation and watch the other dogs have fun and listen to the volunteers as they love on the others while he sits alone, waiting for his last days to come. Please help me help him – FAST!

******************************************************************

Berry, the Chocolate Lab/Red Nose PBT mix (2 years old):

Berry is like the Energizer Bunny. She goes, goes, and goes and loves everyone in her path. She is sharing her cell with a little Blue Tick Coon Hound mix and when you let her out she is like a rocket across the field; then she comes back and tumbles you over, licks you from head to toe and goes off for more running laps. Berry does not even mind cats, is not even curious of them. All she wants is to be loved and to run. She would be great for someone with an active life style. In fact, I bet she’d love being taken to the beach, too. She has a gorgeous coat that looks like creamy caramel and the cutest pink nose as you can see. Her eyes are beautiful. She has a little scab on one ear but that’s nothing that wont heal on its own.

******************************************************************

Spottie, the Blue Tick Coon Hound/Australian Cattle Dog mix (3-4 years old):

Spottie is one of the favorites at Animal Control this week. She likes to play but is docile when you need her to be. She has the most curious markings but it’s clear that Blue Tick Coon Hound and Australian Cattle Dog are the dominant breeds that make up this cute little package. Spottie is happy around other dogs and walks well on a leash. She has one minor set-back and that’s the fact that she is blind in her right eye. It does not seem to bother her in the least. She would have had an adopter this weekend who was also blind in one eye, but weight restrictions prevented him from adopting Spottie who is about 35 pounds. Spottie must have been able to sense his love for her because she did not want to leave his side. I hope that someone else will fall in love with her who can offer her a home without restrictions and with plenty of love.

******************************************************************

Sassy – Black Labrador Retriever mix puppy (4 months old)

You MUST have a look at the video below. All of us are stunned how Sassy turned from a mangy puppy into such a beautiful dog with a gorgeous coat. The picture below is not the most UTD but the video is from last Saturday. Sassy is the calmest puppy I have ever seen and the most loving. She is house broken, too, and is UTD on her shots outside of Rabies, which she would need immediately. Please have a look and tell me you are not in love.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTXsOu-NCqs

******************************************************************

Babes, the Shephard mix puppy (10 weeks old)

Babes is approx. 10 weeks old and is currently in foster care but will need a permanent home as soon as possible so that her foster mom can help another poor, unfortunate soul. Babes was lucky to escape the "clutches" of Liberty County Animal Control because not many puppies make it out of there in time. The facility is in such a bad state that puppies often fall victim to diseases like Parvo if they can't be moved quickly. Yes, it is a sad situation in most facilities like LCAC but it is not necessary. Babes is healthy and has received her puppy shots. She is very cute with her floppy ears and has a wonderful soft coat with a redish tint to it. She is very social, too. All Babes needs now is a REAL family who will invite her into their home and life to love her forever.

"I got a call about 2 dogs a week ago. The owner is loosing her house and moving in 2 weeks. She is taking her 3 small dogs with her, but her 2 "outdoor" dogs can not go.
I got more info on the dogs, Lovey the Rottweiler is 7 years old, and has spent her life on this chain. She was found at a dumpster starving as a puppy, and they "rescued her"

How lovey made it through 7 cold winters with only a plastic doghouse to get her through the freezing nights. Dispite this\, she is very loving and always so excited to see people!

Cody has lived the last 4 years of his life on a chain as well. He is a Yellow Lab/ house mix, with a wonderful personality. He is a submissive guy and very sweet.

My rescue is very full right now and cant take them, but i'm going to do everything i can do to try and find them a safe place... they deserve this! A life on a chain after being abandoned is no life. Please help them.

They are in Murphy, NC.
Both have been spayed and neutered.
I will give basic shots, and deworm them if another rescue can take them!!!

The cats this week are exceptionally beautiful, many extremely friendly. These cats are scheduled to die not for anything they did BUT because their humans could care less so it seems. Why else would they dump them at a high kill pound? Please help one.
