a 501(c)3 not-for-profit animal rescue organization in Columbia, South
Carolina. Pawmetto Lifeline is dedicated to turning the Midlands of
South Carolina into a no-kill community for homeless pets. Each year,
in our community more than 17,000 homeless pets enter just two municipal
shelters and each year more than 11,700 of those same pets are
euthanized due to lack of space and resources. Due to the large number
of homeless pets entering local shelters, stray pets can be euthanized
after a five day holding period which equates to an 68% euthanasia rate
for the Midlands. Pawmetto Lifeline believes that every life is
precious and it is our goal to give shelter pets a new leash on life by
partnering with our local municipal shelters to help solve the

only available to 501(c)(3) Placement Partners with the HEART Program.

all animals listed on this email are available TODAY! Please note the "FINAL DAY
AVAILABLE" indicating when their time is up. Following your confirmation of each
animal you will be notified when they are available to be picked up. You will
have 24 hours from time of confirmation to pick up the animals at the
shelters.
Please reply to this email address to confirm animals you wish to
pull. When you reply to confirm animals, please include your email address, what
rescue you work with and a contact phone number along with the animal
ID#.
Dogs are not heartworm tested until a rescue confirms them (unless
otherwise noted). If you CANNOT take a HW+ animal, please mention it when you
confirm.. If heartworm status is not acceptable once it is determined you may
decline to take the dog.
We CANNOT guarantee the health or behavior of an
animal. The animals have not been examined by a veterinarian unless otherwise
noted.
Please note following a commitment to a specific animal that animal
must be picked up at the designated shelter within 24 hours."

''When Hurricanes Irma, Harvey, and Jose came ashore last month, large parts of the South were flooded and without power for days. Our pet rescue partners in the impacted areas had their work cut out for them for sure.
Three abandoned kittens are among them. Rescuers also tried to save their mother, but without food and water for days, she had given everything she had to nurse her offspring, and she did not survive.
The tiny kittens, just three weeks old at the time, were all healthy. Our rescue partner bottle fed them and aptly named them Irma, Harvey, and Jose. They are among the 102 homeless pets who just arrived within the past few days."

REJECTION: Cocoa was so happy to see volunteers thinking he was getting picked. Only to face rejection yet again.
He's been there the longest, so now moved to EU holding pen. Intake 9/7, as stray, been available since 9/13--- now being euthanized.
Cocoa a handsome lab mix about 40 pounds has slight graying around
muzzle, So he's an older dog that will need special care. Sweet but

be placed on stray animals that come into Harris County Animal Shelter
to allow ample time for pets to be reunited with their owners.
Harris County Animal Shelter is working in partnership with Best Friends
Animal Society, Houston Pets Alive and Houston Pet Set to reunite lost
pets with their families. Animals brought to Harris County Animal
Shelter will either be kept at the 612 Canino Rd. location as space
permits, or they will be transported to the NRG arena Pet Reunion
Pavilion to await their reunion with their owner. If you or someone you
know has lost a pet it is best to first check with shelters and rescues
in your local municipality. We also recommend checking petharbor.com and bestfriends.org/hurricaneharvey for a listing of found pets throughout the jurisdiction. Please share and help us reunite pets with their people!"

Other Kill shelters in Texas continue to say they will euthanize dogs in their care unless fosters or adopters show up. Will they really do this after a hurricane of the magnitude of Harvey? Do they ever think they are killing someone's pet?
I sense there could be a huge lawsuit by owners if their pets were adopted or euthanized before the 30 day legal requirement.

See the success stories and most important see the dogs who are in the euth room ready to die becaue of the rules people make. They don't have to die. People are choosing to kill them because this is the way it has been done in many municipal shelters for years.This is an outdated way to manage the problem which starts with PEOPLE.
Would you want to have to kill this healthy happy dog? Hate to be this blunt but someone at the shelter will have to do this if no one steps up. Can you imagine what the shelter workers go through? Please save all these dogs. Contact shelter immediately.

Please help these dogs and cats. Pledging attracts rescues. Fostering, Adopting or Just Sharing the info on the animals also helps. Their tales will stop wagging and they will take their last breaths in a cold shelter discarded like old clothes if people do not extend help to the shelters and rescues.

Very active would need a big yard to run & play in! There is never a good time to surrender a pet to a kill shelter ... but August may be the worst time.. ... Little GYPSY is only 9 months old and waits thinking her human "mom" will return for her. Too many animals to post on this thread: dogs, cats, puppies, kittens. All being euthanized because shelters are full, adoptions are down, intake has not skipped a beat, irresponsible owners are walking in daily surrendering their animals, and rescues are not calling to take animals: they need fosters and funds to save.
