UPDATE: We are now featuring homeless pets from both Paulding and Heard County Animal Control. Heard County is a very high kill shelter and we are pleased to be working with them to help when we can!
Good Mews is always trying to help as many homeless pets as possible and like all shelters, we are limited by space and resources.
Introducing the P.E.T.S. (Putting Euthanasia To Sleep) Project, we are beginning a new community effort by featuring the homeless dogs and cats from Paulding animal control and Heard County Animal Control.
Long term, our goal is to feature animals from 2 shelters on our website( just added #2), make flyers to post around the community, raise money for more spays, neuters and other necessities for our cats, and ultimately help us rescue more homeless pets. All donors will receive a special “paw print” featuring their name on it which will be seen in our shelter!
Money raised within this program will enable Good Mews to continue our mission of helping homeless, abandoned and abused pets. With more resources, we will continue to rescue as many cats as we can from local animal controls who otherwise wouldn’t have a chance at life.
If you would like to participate by helping to print out pictures of the homeless pets of Paulding animal control and hang them around town, please contact and click on
Feline Care Manager for more details!
If you would like to donate to Good Mews to enable us to rescue more homeless animals, please click P.E.T.S-Project. In order to get your name on our special card hanging in the shelter, please mention P.E.T.S. Project when you make your donation.

Buford is a happy-go-lucky fella. He's a gorgeous pure, 5 yr old, 31 lb beagle. He's great with other dogs, cats and just adores people. Very out going and friendly. He is a cuddle bunny (translate bed-hog) who loves his tummy scratched and is glued to his foster mom's side. He was in the pound and had heartworm. We treated him and he's just fine now. Then just when he'd found a forever home, his owner passed away. So now he's looking for a forever home with you! This spayed female cat is about 9 years old. She is a Tortoiseshell Manx and gets along well with dogs.
Both animals are up to date with routine shots, already house trained, altered.
From Shelter website
"We believe in and are committed to urging the public to accept responsiblity for their pets which includes having the pets spayed/neutered, providing consistent and as necessary veterinary care, the additional necessities of food, water and shelter, as well as a loving home. So we work with the public to ensure the on-going care of their pet family members. We will also work with the general public to rehome their pets if they've exhausted all options. These pets must be fully vetted (altered) and the owners must continue to foster them until we can get them rehomed.
We work with local shelters to save these homeless pets as they are first in danger of being euthanized due to overpopulation.
Our shelter is open for adoptions and volunteering starting in December, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11am-4pm. All adoptions are screened, as are the on-line inquiries we receive."
The pound has been getting slammed lately, and has been euthanizing twice weekly.

Anyone feeding their animals Nutro Pro needs to read this article. Illness, Death, Dog, Nutro Pet Food
Company denies a link to scores of sudden illness
By Lisa Wade McCormick ConsumerAffairs.com June 23, 2008 A series of mysterious illness and death, dogs Nutro pet food.
Scores of pet owners report their animals became ill while eating Nutro products, then recovered when they were switched to another brand.
At least six dogs have died in the past two months, according to an analysis of complaints to ConsumerAffairs.com. The company discounts the reports, saying they are isolated and unconfirmed; at least one Nutro employee, sickened by the company's response, told us she resigned.

This guy seems perfect in every way. He came to us with his collar, choke chain and a leash attached. These pictures and video were taken when he came in on Friday. He was immediately friendly with us. Today we tried him out with other dogs (Silk and Rutgers) and he was fine with them although he mostly ignored them and wanted to be with the people in the field. He went into the cat room, looked around, touched noses with Howard and backed out.I took him in again, and again he looked around and backed out. There was a preschool age child at the shelter who petted and loved on him and his only fault was that he jumped up on the child - for attention, not to hurt him.He has also been around school aged children. The only thing we have foundwrong with him is that he is not yet neutered. He is probably 1-2 years old and weighs about 40 lbs. or so. His 5 day hold is up Tuesday. We cannot get him neutered in time for the Tuesday transport but we could get his rabies and health papers.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the only way to effectively bring down the numbers of feral cats in your community, in both the short- and long-term."

Ceasar German Shepherd Dog Large Young Male Dog Pet ID: 6/14-2410
Ceasar was abandon by his owner but we were able to get a few details from the person he was left with. He is 7 months old and supposed to be current on vaccinations but we do not have proof of that. Like most German Shepherd dogs Ceasar is very sensitive and today all he wanted to do was carry around his toy and whine. He is very confused about why he is in the kennel and we are very sad to watch him look for a way back home. Please consider Ceasar if you can give him an indoor home as part of your family, he needs to be loved and not deserted again! (770) 288-PETS. My I.D. #6/14-2410 please refer to this number when inquiring about me.

Sara has had a family emergency and MUST find rescue NOW!Becauseof the situation she is willing to release the dogs to pre-approved rescue at no cost. They must find rescue this week.
Sara and her husband have done so much for the animals in their community and now they need our help!
The Putnam County Humane Society is a non-profit rescue/foster organization located in Hurricane, WV. We that is dedicated to saving the lives of the abandoned and abused animals of Putnam County.
Pulling dogs from The Humane Society in Putnam Co helps the dogs in the county run shelter.
Most of the dogs listed on the Putnam Co website are actually being cared for by Sara and her husband, private residents/animal lovers living in Red House, WV. They are seeking help from rescues to get these dogs placed in indoor homes. They are not an official "organization", just animal lovers trying to help these dogs. Dogs are pulled from the local shelter, then quarantined for health, then introduced to their dog population. They have their OWN dog building, complete with concrete floor with a drain in the center, air conditioning, and crates. Dogs are crate trained and fully vetted prior to transport and exercised daily in a 3/4 acre fenced yard.
Sara knows the dogs well , handles them herself every day, crate trains ALL of them, and socializes ALL of them with other dogs. They are also exercised in a large fenced area daily. She can often tell you if a dog is good with cats and children as well. Vetting is available at a reasonable rate and transport is available to almost anywhere!
Notes: BD has a lot of energy, but will sit still for love. She is crate trained, and loves to play with other dogs. She MUST have room to run. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Becky is a sweetheart, and relatively calm for a min pin. She is crate trained, and loves other dogs and children. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Bennie is such a sweet girl, and LOVES children. She is crate trained and seems to get along well with other dogs. When she wags her tail, her whole body wags! This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: YES Eddie is a girl. She reminded us of the dog on the sitcom. She looks at you so lovingly. She would do best without any other dogs. She is mostly crate trained, and loves people so much. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Elvis is a male hound of unknown orgin, crate trained, very docile and sweet and good with kids, other dogs and just about everyone. If you like hounds, "He ain't nothing but a hound dog". Give Elvis a home in your heart.
This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Someone has been mean to this poor guy...he has a little bit of a problem with submissive urination. It took his foster family a while to mostly break him of that. He is so sweet, and would love to come home with you. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: This sweet boy spent the majority of his life loving an elderly man that had to go to a nursing home last year. It broke both their hearts. Please give him a chance for a few good years left to love. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, already house trained, altered
Notes: Luther is a big baby, and afraid of big dogs. His favorite buddies in foster care are a yorkie mix and a boston terrier mix. He has LOTS of energy, and would probably do best without small children--only because he is unaware that he is not a 5lb lap dog. He is very submissive to humans, and plays well with other dogs. He is completely crate-trained, and very intelligent. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Isn't that great that she smiled for the camera? She is very likely housebroken and is just wonderful to be around. Please note that she is food protective, but this is her only flaw. Her coat is just beautiful and soft. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, already house trained, altered
Notes: Moose has been very mistreated in his life. He was found with a collar embedded in his neck, and wouldn't walk. He was so terrified when someone approached him, he would just lie down. His coat was full of mats & burs, and he was emaciated. Now, he LOVES attention, but someone will still have to be patient. He now comes when called, and sits still when he's being petted. Please show this boy that there are a few good humans out there. He's working on crate training. He comes in and goes straight into his crate. This pet is: a special needs pet, up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Ozzy is a sweet boy, still working on crate-training. He gets along with pretty much everyone, and loves nothing more than to be petted and loved. Has occasional seizures. This pet is: a special needs pet, up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Pebbles is a sweetie, and has made great strides towards socialization and playing well with others. She is completely crate-trained, and just can't get enough attention. She does well with children, also. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: What an adorable pup! Pogo has the most adorable ears and is a loving, gentle dog. He's going to be a handsome adult and would make a faithful friend. He has the energy that his name implies, but is also very sweet with a good nature. If you've been looking for these traits in a dog, please come visit Pogo and see if he's your new dog. ************ **UPDATE* ********* * Pogo is all grown up. He's been in foster care for over a year. We estimate he is between 18mos - 2 yrs old now. Please give him a home to grow old in ! *******Pogo is around 3 yrs old now and still waiting for YOU!******** ********* ********* ********* ********* *****
This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Sasha has fear and trust issues. She is crate trained and gets along well with most other dogs. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Sharpy doesn't always like "new" dogs, so he would do best without any other adult dogs. He does love puppies, though. He is working on crate training, and doing much better. No food or toy aggression. This pet is: a special needs pet, up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Snowball is very nervous, but loves people, and is crate trained. And, he's a good bed partner. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
Notes: Toby is one goofy boy! He loves to play, and has tons of energy. He is one big muscle, and can jump tall fences...so keeping him in will be fun!! He plays well with all others. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered
