11/28/11 Is There Something Wrong with Wal-Mart Ol Roy Pet Foods?

I came across this link and thought it was worth a post. Not sure how bad this food is since it is still sold but thought people need to know some dog owner's opinions and experiences. People are linking their dog's illness and death to this food.

Transport is available to the northeast.

About us: TCHS takes care of the dogs that come in to the county dog pound which is a kill shelter. We are very rescue friendly and work very hard so no adoptable dogs get euthanized. All dogs are vaccinated on intake to the shelter and we do behavior assessments. We have a very low adoption rate in our area so we rely on rescues to save the majority of the dogs that come in to the pound.

SPONSORSHIP TO HELP THE ANIMALS IN NEED is greatly appreciated. If you wish to sponsor one of the animals, please send an email to satoashley@comcast.net (comcast.net) stating who you wish to sponsor. The sponsorship information will be forwarded to the officers at the shelter. Offers of medical sponsorship will additionally be added to email pleas of the animals they are designated for without personal information given. They are meant as ‘pledges’ only for future donations to the approved rescue that pulls the animal(s) to assist with their medical needs. The officers will contact sponsors whenever possible with contact information of the pulling rescue.

ADOPTION AND OUT-OF-STATE RESCUE: Please request an application from the sheltermburrell@barrowga.org (@barrowga.org). Include the ID number of the animal(s) if available and not just name alone. Completed applications are faxed back to the shelter for the approval process. Please be patient during this time - approved adopters will be contacted once the approval process is completed. After shelter hours, applications can be requested also from satoashley@comcast.net (@comcast.net). Full veterinary services and boarding are available at Four Paws Veterinary Hospital and transport of the animal to the hospital is arranged.

GEORGIA RESCUE: Please contact the Barrow officers for specific information. Approved GA licensed rescues can pull animals free of charge with the veterinary care being the responsibility of the rescue. Out of state rescue, please request an application from the shelter. At this time, the shelter does not have specific out-of-state transport help, but may be able to assist with local, short distance transport if needed and the volunteers are available to do so.

CATS: The adoption fee for any cat is $100. The fee includes: spay or neuter, physical exam, fecal exam, deworming, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, and microchip. For licensed Georgia rescues there is no charge to pull a cat, but no veterinary services come with the cat. Out of state rescues, please contact us for details. *LAST DAY means the date the cat is scheduled for euthanasia. If we have a cat posted whose last day has passed, that cat should be considered extremely urgent. Please call about those cats immediately as they may be subject to euthanasia at any time. We remove postings on available cats when they leave the building or their adoption has been completed. If you are a rescuer who has spoken for a cat or a person with an adoption application on a cat, do not take offense. We have had rescues and adoptions fall through in the past and we work hard to make sure no cat falls through the cracks.

DOGS: The adoption fee for all dogs is $100. The fee includes: Spay or neuter, physical exam, fecal exam, deworming, rabies vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, and microchip. For licensed Georgia rescues there is no charge to pull a dog, but no veterinary services come with the dog. Out of state rescues, please contact us for details. *LAST DAY means the date the dog is scheduled for euthanasia. TRANSPORT FOR OUT OF STATE ADOPTERS AND RESCUES: Transport is the responsibility of the adopter/rescue respectively. At this time, the shelter does not have specific transport help. There are multiple resources available for this and please ask those involved in the rescue community for recommendations and references if needed. For a list of transport resources, please send a request via email.

IF YOU WISH TO SAVE AN ANIMAL IN NEED - PLEASE DON’T DELAY! Contact the shelter as early as possible to begin adoption/rescue preparations. Euthanization typically is on Wednesday mornings and Barrow is closed to the public. Contacting the shelter NO LATER THAN 5:00 on Tuesdays is in the best interest of the animals as it allows sufficient time to make adoption or rescue preparations without risk of last-minute issues. The shelter makes every available effort for the animals, but they need your timely and respectful cooperation to continue these efforts. Wednesday: please email the Barrow Co. officers BEFORE 8:30 AM if an animal is still in need of rescue."

UPDATE11/25/11 Attention Senior Dog Lovers. After 11 and 15 years Senior Dogs' Owner Died. They Need Out of Boarding. Please Give Them a Home NY

Update 12/1 from Joanne
It looks like Jackpot & Sheba will have a Merry Christmas after all . Through many disappointments we had a wonderful family from MA send an application on Friday for them. So far their references have checked out and an home check has been scheduled for this Thursday. If all goes well with that, April and I will be bringing Jackpot & Sheba to their new family in Massachusettes this Saturday.
We are still in need of some help with paying for their boarding until then.
We owe the vet $523.21 as of last night and have to pay through this Saturday when we pick them up to take them to their new home.
If anyone can help out we would so appreciate it, we are forever grateful to everyone that has loved them, prayed for them, and donated towards them. Words cannot express our gratitude to you all.
Hugs to all of you, we could not have done this without you !!

Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving¦and we still have NO HOME!!

Dear Santa,
Our Dad passed away on October 4th, 2011 and his friends April & Joanne came and got us out of the kill shelter that we were brought to by animal control right after they buried our Dad on 10-14-11. They brought us to Joanne's vet so we would have a place to stay until someone gave us a forever home…we are still here. So many generous people have helped to pay for us to stay there and we ...love them for helping but people are starting to give up on us Santa because we have been in boarding for so long and because we are seniors. Just because we are 11 and 15 doesn't mean we don't have a lot of life and love left in us !! We love people and humans, get along with other cats and dogs and would love to be a part of a family !! Santa, we still believe in Christmas miracles even after all we have been through, please bring us a loving forever home in time for Christmas."
Love,
Jackpot & Sheba"

If your interested in adopting or fostering one of these dogs please contact Sherry the ACO Immediately. Viewing is by Appointment Only:
860-305-6764

***ONLY SERIOUS INQUIRIES PLEASE***
Please do not say you can rescue a dog if you can't. These dogs have urgent deadlines to be adopted or they will be put to sleep. If you say you are going to adopt/foster and don't it could be that dogs life because everyone thought they were safe. If you change your mind that okay but please be respectful and cancel your appointment so we have time to try and find a new home.

#260 Labrador Retriever/American Staffordshire Terrier Mix - Extra Large - Adult - Male
Approx. 2yrs old..approx. 80lbs.. "Maraduke" is the best description for this extra large "goofy ball" who truely thinks he is a chihuhua. He is super friendly, great on leash and good with dogs he met..He knows some obedience and is very affectionate.. He loves to be chased and loves chasing you but forgets how to stop..If you go to his level, he thinks you are his human couch.. If youre looking for a large, bundle of goofiness, this is him!! Meet him and you'll definately walk away smiling or laughing! This dog will be put to sleep on 11-22-11 if no one rescues or adopts it!

#261 Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier Mix - Medium - Young - Male
(another victim of a "hit and run") Approx. 7mons..approx. 45lbs..The pictures DO NOT do this sweet pup justice! He is EXTREMELY sweet...LOVES anybody that shows him love and showers him with kisses.. He is very gentle and aliitle shy but warms up. He is good with dogs he met, awsome on leash.. He is not a barker . He has a rear broken leg which the vets say will heal well with the cast on his leg for a month or so. He gets along good but his excerise must be limited right now. He LOVES to be carried if you prefer to hold him.. He is currently staying at the vet so his leg stays dry and he can be spolied with the 24 hr attention.. This dog will be put to sleep on 11-23-11 if no one rescues or adopts it!

#262 Australian Shepherd/Setter Mix - Large - Adult - Male
Approx. 2yrs.approx. 60lbs..Very friendly boy, great on leash, knows some obedience, affectionate, playful but not hyper.. He is neutered. This dog will be put to sleep on 11-23-11 if no one rescues or adopts it!

He would make a great addition to any family:) Marion County is transporting on 12/3 and would love for Scooter to be home for the Holidays. He will have his rabies, dhlpp, bordietella, HW test and wormed at no cost to your rescue. Contact donnielee@earhtlink.net or ggsnap778@aol.com if you would like to meet Scooter. thanks

UPDATE-11/16/11 Cocker Spaniel Needs A Home and Donations GA

This is an e-mail I received.

CROSS POSTING – PLEASE SHARE!!!

CONTACT: Petra at newbeginningsanimalrescue@gmail.com

I came back into our neighborhood from running errands Sunday night, which is when I found this little girl in a neighbors yard, eating acorns... She was very, very scared when I approached her but she didn't run from me either, just kind of stayed out of arms reach. Then she almost got hit by a car that drove into the neighborhood way to fast. That's when I spoke to her very firm and told her to sit. Poor girl... she looked so scared but she didn't move and I finally had a chance to get my hands on her and carry her to my truck.

Once at home, she took right to my dogs but they didn't want any part of her and were very stand-offish, which is strange for them. I put a collar and leash on her and walked her through the entire neighborhood, knocking on almost all doors. Nobody had ever seen her before and neither had I.

Back at home, I looked her over well and saw that she was really dirty, her hair grown way over her toe nails. She is real small, which is why I figured she had to be a puppy still, maybe 9 months at the most. I found someone to keep her in quarantine - thank you Sheryl Barton - and the next day I got word from Karen Talbot that she had a family who had been waiting for a blonde, young Cocker Spaniel. I was sooo excited for her but the excitement did not last long...

When she was checked for a micro chip - there was none - she was also HW tested... Come to find out, this poor baby is about 2-3 years old and is high HW positive. :-( Before she can go up north, she has to be treated and must be healthy. I don't have the money to do this and neither does anyone else at Carpathia Paws, which is why we have to start a chipin yet again... I am sorry, I hate to keep asking for money but it's the only way to help these babies.

We all agree that this little girl was most likely abused and it is very obvious that she was neglected. She so badly wants to be loved and I'd love nothing more than to send her up north into a wonderful forever home where she finally understands that she is not a burden to anyone and that she is LOVED.
