12/31/09 " Promise is amazing... she is a Golden Retriever mix who was physically abused."

Promise
Petra's comments.

"No, no, nooooo.... NO was the only word that was screaming in my mind when I saw what had been done to this dog. Everyone can see that someone wired her snout shut. She probably barked too much at one point and the cruel monster who owned her had nothing better to do than to wire her snout. I wished I could wire his and do so much more... This is a scar that did not happen over night. It's many days and nights of living with a wired shut snout. Not only did it leave a physical scar but it left an emotional one as well.

I named her Promise because I promised her that she would be safe from now on and that the home I would find her would only be the very best. Promise was so scared when I tried to lead her out of her cell that she would not walk. I had to pick her up and carry her outside but she would not walk outside either, so I picked her up again and carried her out into the exercise field. She sat there like a little heap of misery and every time I moved she cowered just waiting to be hit. I spoke to her as softly as I could and lightly touched her cheeks and ears and then the tears came... I finally sat there, hugging her and wetting her head with many, many tears. I have rescued a while now and I don't cry that much anymore; there are so many that you don't have tears left sometimes, but when I hugged Promise I think that I could literally feel the sadness and loneliness she is feeling. I am sitting here crying, as I am typing this because I remember that feeling again. Promise finally understood that I was there to help her and she put her head in my lap and sighed... When I got up a while later, she followed me around and did not let me out of her sight. When I left to get another dog, she looked very lost and cried out for me. I kept her in the exercise field the whole time I was temperament testing other dogs and she helped me with all of them. She enjoyed being around most of them and even pounced with a few, which was such a joy to see. When it was time for me to do some paperwork, I brought her into the little rescue shed/office and closed the door. She laid by my feet, content, just looking up at me every now and then and of course I'd pat her on her head and tell her what a good and beautiful little girl she is. All the time that I was around Promise, she made me feel like I was the most important person in her life and she had only met me today and here I am a human! Imagine that, she is trusting a human after just a little while when it was another "human" who misstreated and beat her... The forgiveness of dogs blows me away time and time again.

Promise is amazing... She is a Golden Retriever mix and is fully grown at about 2 years of age. She is medium in size and only weighst about 40 pounds. Her coat is thick and long and she has a fan tail. As mentioned before, she is good with other dogs and she has a great need for affection; therefore, the best home would be one with a family where someone is home quite a bit. She will not be allowed to go to a home with small children because Promise will mouth begging for attention, which could hurt a small child.

12/28/09 ELLA "My favorite little girl '' Urgent

My favorite little girl Ella

comments by Petra

''There is no doubt that Ella is the dog that has touched my heart most this week. She makes you laugh and has such a wonderful temperament. When I first saw Ella in her very dark cell, she was trying to figure out whether she was happy to see me or whether I was not to be trusted. She wrinkled her nose and wagged her tail all at the same time. I could tell that she really, really, really wanted to trust me and I guess she decided she would because she let me slip a leash around her and walk her out to the exercise field where another dog was waiting to play with her. As soon as she saw the other dog her true personality came out. She literally glowed with excitement and the two of them played and ran and had a grand time. We noticed that she was not using her right hind leg and when we further examined it we noticed that her knee had a light swelling, as did her ribs on that side. We are pretty sure that she must have had an encounter with a moving car but apparently it was not too bad because there is no break in her skin, just slight swelling. This should be looked at by a vet as soon as possible however. Ella loves her humans, too. She figured out quickly that we were the "good kind" and she begged for cookies (see pictures) and that's also when we found out that Ella will sit when told and will even shake! Her collar is not worn out and she is a very clean looking dog. She definitely had a home and is not your run-of-the-mill stray. She is at the most 9 months old and is only medium in size and I do not expect her to grow any more. She is as cute as a button. I can't imagine anyone meeting her and not falling in love. Ella is mixed with bully breed. If you can help Ella, please contact me right away at the e-mail address.' '

DEATH ROW ANIMALS
EUTHANASIA DATE: December 31st!

If you would like to adopt one of the animals below, please contact
newbeginningsanimalrescue@gmail.com

The animals on this posting are on Death Row at Liberty County Animal Control. We only have very little time, often days, to find them new homes or no kill rescues to save their lives. We have personally interacted with each one of these animals. Our descriptions are straight forward! Our conscience would not allow us to hold anything back, and we would never give false information to save an animal, because it would only result in the animal being returned. You will never find vicious/dangerous animals on our listing! Usually, little or none is known about these animals' medical history. Thanks to micro chips, we do know that many of them are abandoned by military, which means they are most likely up-to-date on there shots, heart worm negative, and generally healthy; however, we cannot guarantee that, which is why each animal must receive prompt veterinary care after adoption/rescue takes place.

Spaying or neutering is a MUST!!! This does not apply to rescue; however local adopters MUST purchase a spay/neuter voucher from us, as well as a micro chip and Rabies shot. Spay vouchers are $75 (dogs), $60 (cats) and neuter vouchers are $65 (dogs), $50 (cats). The cost for the micro chip and Rabies shot is $10 each. (If an adopter chooses to use his/her own vet for the spay/neuter, we will gladly reimburse the voucher amount upon proof from the vet’s office.)

Your help with adopting, rescuing, or fostering these animals is immensely appreciated, as is your help with cross posting to others who may be able to help save a life.

Toby, the Chihuhua

Toby is an adult Chihuahua and needs to go to someone who understands his breed. He certainly has some attitude when he first meets you, as to say. "Look buddy, I might be small, but I make up for it in UMPH!" hahaha As soon as he realizes that you are there to hold him, hug him and cradle him, he's all sugar plums. I personally fell in love with the little fellow and hope that he will quickly escape the clutches of this kill facility to live his life out with a loving family. I am not sure how old Toby is but I know for sure that he is an adult dog. Look at his cute pictures. See him stretching in the one on the right! He's very comfortable because he knows that I was there to take care of him and to try to help him. If you love little Chihuahua's and would like to save the life of a very deserving one, please give Toby a second look. If you can't get over his pleading look in the first picture, please contact me before it's too late for him.

Annie, the solid white American Bulldog puppy

Annie is GORGEOUS! She appears to be a pure-bred American Bulldog and is only between 6 and 9 months of age. She has tons of puppy energy and loves giving kisses. She is housed with 2 other dogs because she gets along very well with other dogs. She needs some leash traininig but she I believe she would be a fast learner. She is a very sweet girl and it's tough seeing her in the dirty, cold animal control facility not knowing if she will make it out alive. If you can help Anny, please contact me right away at the e-mail address above.

Charlotte, the Catahoula mix pup
Just have a look at this stunning girl! It is easy to see that Charlotte is a Catahoula Leopard Cur mix. Her markings are just beautiful and her face is so precious. Charlotte is very submissive and a little shy at first but she wants to be hugged and petted. She likes to play with other dogs but is a little scared when they want to rough house and will retreat and try to hide behind your back. Her energy level is medium and she is between 6 and 9 months of age. If you have been looking for a very special dog, you should come by and meet Charlotte. Please contact me at the e-mail address above. I'd be glad to meet you and introduce you to our sweet Charlotte.

I am taking applications... (Poodle)

This sweetheart came in with a micro chip but Animal Control is having trouble getting in touch with his owners. Honestly, I pray that they can't get in touch with them because his family does not deserve him. The poor fellow is in such a bad need of a grooming and has lost some hair on his hind legs, which seems like a stress issue to me. He is super sweet, very needy yet a little shy. He is good with other dogs and cats and truly needs a REAL family who will appreciate and love him and will take proper care of his coat. I am taking applications for his adoption now - I don't want to waste any time. I can't promise that you will get him if you apply for his adoption but I have a hunch that he is not going to go back to his former home. I have seen this many times before - unfortunately. :-( If you are interested in this sweet Poodle boy, please contact me at the e-mail address above. "

Itty bitty Gina, the Terrier mix! (NO ONE INQUIRED!!!) RESCUED

Gina is everything you love in a Terrier. She is small, spunky and cute! She loves to be loved on and she has fun playing with smaller dogs; though, she's a little intimidated by larger dogs. She is good around kids and has a wonderful personality. Her ears are probably the cutest thing about this little package. There's no telling what all makes up this cutie pie, but Terrier is a sure guess.

Hoss, the PBT mix is a hoot! (NO ONE INQUIRED!!!)
Hoss is a very fun dog and it is clear that who ever had him before he ended up at Animal Control spent a lot of time with him. He acts like a puppy and is care free. He likes to pounce to show you that he wants to play and though he is a rough player with other dogs, he does get along with them. He is not very tall but is very solid and heavy. He is completely charcoal black and has a great face, framed by floppy ears. He is still young judging by his demeanor. I would not guess him over 2 years old.

Large, handsome bloke, looking for love! (NO ONE INQUIRED!!!)RESCUED
This boy is an absolute joy to interact with. Cesar is as sweet in temperament as he is large in size. He is 95% Rottweiler, the only thing that's missing are the tan eye brows. When you first meet him he looks intimidating but just moments later it is clear that he is nothing but a big baby. He is great with other dogs and is wonderful with humans. He comes when you call him and it seems that he would be very easy to teach tricks to. He looks to be around 3 years old and could quite possibly be house broken. Do you have room for a big, lovey?

************************************************************ Why I'm not impressed with hunters! (NO ONE INQUIRED!!!)
This is an example of why I'm not impressed with hunters! Okay, so I'm generalizing but us rescuers see hunting dogs just like Vera all the time - malnourished and obviously not well taken care of. Vera is shy but looking for human contact. She seem confused and doesn't understand why she is being kept at Animal Control, isolated in a cell. It is clear that she is used to being around other dogs and it would be so great if she could go to a home with another dog to keep her company. But the truth is that Vera may not make it out at all... Hunting dogs are one of the breeds that rarely do. She would need a home with a high privacy fence, as she can jump a 4-foot chain link fence with ease. Vera recently had puppies and her nipples are droopy and will need some time to shrink down again.
